Grey’s Anatomy star Eric Dane reveals sad health diagnosis
Grey’s Anatomy and Euphoria actor Eric Dane has made a sad health announcement today, asking the public for “privacy during this time”.
Actor Eric Dane has today announced he’s been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
The former Grey’s Anatomy and current Euphoria actor made the announcement in a statement issued to People.
“I have been diagnosed with ALS. I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter,” he said.
“I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to set of Euphoria next week. I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time.”
ALS is a rare degenerative disease that causes progressive paralysis of the muscles and currently has no cure.
People reports that Dane, 52, is due on set for the third season of Euphoria on April 14.
The announcement comes several weeks after news broke that Dane and his wife, actress Rebecca Gayheart, had quietly called off their divorce, seven years after they first split.
Gayheart had initially filed for divorce in 2018, citing irreconcilable differences.
But the New York Post reported last month that both stars had signed a motion to dismiss the divorce petition.
They’d earlier sparked rumours of a reconciliation when they were spotted holding hands in public in 2023.
The pair share two daughters: Billie Beatrice, 15, and Georgia Geraldine, 13.
Other notable stars who have been diagnosed with ALS include recently deceased R&B singer Roberta Flack and the late physicist Stephen Hawking.
