Woody Allen attends rare red carpet event with wife and daughters
The controversial filmmaker has hit the Venice Film Festival, marking a rare sighting of him with his wife and their kids.
Woody Allen has stepped out for a rare outing with his wife and their two daughters.
The US filmmaker, 87, attended the red carpet premiere for his 50th movie, Coup De Chance, at the Venice Film Festival on Monday night, local time.
Allen was joined by his wife Soon-Yi Previn, 52, and the couple’s adopted daughters Bechet, 24, and Manzie Tio, 23.
The four-time Academy Award winner, who married Soon-Yi in 1997, also gave an interview with Variety at the event, where he spoke about sexual assault allegations levelled against him by his adopted daughter Dylan Farrow, 38, claims of which he vehemently denies.
“The situation has been investigated by two people, two major bodies, not people, but two major investigative bodies. And both, after long detailed investigations, concluded there was no merit to these charges, that, you know, is exactly as I wrote in my book, Apropos of Nothing,” Allen told the publication.
“There was nothing to it. The fact that it lingers on always makes me think that maybe people like the idea that it lingers on. You know, maybe there’s something appealing to people.
“But why? Why? I don’t know what you can do besides having it investigated, which they did so meticulously.
“One was less than a year and the other one was many months. And they spoke to everybody concerned and, you know, both came to the exact same conclusion.”
Allen added, despite the situation, he was “always willing to” to reconcile with Dylan and her brother, journalist Ronan Farrow, both of whom he shared with actress Mia Farrow [Ronan is the couple’s biological son].
But Allen said he hadn’t spoken to Dylan or Ronan since they participated in the bombshell 2021 documentary, Allen v. Farrow.
Allen’s relationship with actress Mia Farrow, now 78, ended in 1992 after 12 years, after his intimate relationship with Soon-Yi – Mia’s then 21-year-old adopted daughter – became public.
