White Lotus star Aimee Lou Wood seen crying amid SNL spat
Actress Aimee Lou Wood has spoken out about sobbing on the street, hours after slamming a “mean” SNL parody of her.
The White Lotus star Aimee Lou Wood has been spotted crying on the streets of London yesterday, shortly after she had publicly slammed a “mean” parody of her that aired on Saturday Night Live over the weekend.
But in a new Instagram story, Wood insists her upset was nothing to do with the parody.
Responding to concern over her wellbeing after the worrying photos surfaced, Wood wrote: “Thank you so much. Just to say, I actually wasn’t crying about anything that the papers made out I was crying about. Something completely unrelated.”
SNL aired a White Lotus spoof during Saturday’s episode, using the show’s plush hotel setting for a parody of American politics, with actors playing Donald Trump and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. re-imagined as White Lotus characters.
But SNL cast member Sarah Sherman’s brief portrayal of Wood’s character Chelsea in the sketch had no political element: Instead, she simply exaggerated Wood’s distinctive front teeth and wide eyes.
Wood spoke out on Instagram after the skit aired, calling it “mean and unfunny.”
“Yes, take the piss for sure — that’s what the show is about – but there must be a cleverer, more nuanced, less cheap way?” she asked.
Wood insisted that she was not “thin skinned”: “I actually love being taken the piss out of when it’s clever and in good spirits,” she wrote.
“I don’t mind caricature — I understand that’s what SNL is, but the rest of the skit was punching up and I/Chelsea was the only one punched down on,” she added. “At least get the accent right, seriously. I respect accuracy, even if it’s mean.”
The same day as those posts, she was spotted on a South London high street, looking visibly emotional as she was comforted by Ralph Davis, co-writer of her upcoming BBC miniseries Film Club.
Other celebrities including Georgia May Jagger, Cara Delevingne, and Jameela Jamil have all spoken up in Wood’s defence since the skit aired. May Jagger called the sketch “low” and “misjudged.”
And it appears even SNL agreed with that verdict, with Wood later reporting that she’d received a private apology from the show.
One celeb who didn’t mind the sketch: Wood’s White Lotus co-star Walton Goggins. Rumours of a feud have dogged the on-screen lovers in recent days, after they unfollowed each other on Instagram and wiped their previous interactions on the platform.
Goggins shared the SNL skit on his Instagram account and gave it his seal of approval, declaring it “smashing.”

Wood said that she was tired of talking about her teeth in an interview with the Sunday Times published earlier this month.
“It’s, like, cool, and now I want to stop f**king talking about it,” she said.
Can I talk about my character? Why am I talking about my gnashers?” she continued. “It’s like now I’m just a pair of front teeth.”
