Katy Perry’s cringe-worthy act during space flight

Pop star Katy Perry took her brief time in space to pull a promotional stunt that was truly cringe-worthy.

Katy Perry and the five other women aboard the Blue Origin rocket had just a few minutes in space before their capsule hurtled back down to earth overnight.

Just enough time to wonder in the majesty of earth, ponder your place in the vast universe … and get in some tour promo.

While others gazed out the windows at the planet below, Perry found her camera inside the pod and launched the setlist for her upcoming Lifetimes world tour, holding up a butterfly-shaped card with various (barely legible) song titles.

Earlier, Perry had told AP that she was joining the space flight “for the next generation to inspire so many different people but especially young girls to go, ‘I’ll go to space in the future.’ No limitations.’”

Or, y’know, to reveal the news that she’ll be singing California Gurls on tour.

As Perry held her setlist up to the camera, letting it float away in the zero-gravity conditions, fellow passenger Gayle King could be heard in the background imploring her cabin mates to actually look out the windows before the oh-so-brief space mission came to an end.

Perry had teased the stunt in a sit-down interview ahead of the flight.

“I’m launching a tour on April 23rd in Mexico, and I’ll be on tour for the rest of the year … and I think it’d be pretty cool to launch the setlist for that tour in space,” she said.

Perry’s move garnered a mixed reaction on social media, where some roasted the star over the fact her big reveal was near-impossible to even read.

“Revealing the tour setlist which no one can read in the space on a random monday is the most katy perry thing she’ll ever do,” one person tweeted.

“Katy Perry reveals the setlist for her LIFETIMES tour from space. Unfortunately, we have no idea what it says,” another quipped.

“Katy Perry experiencing what only very few people ever have in getting to look at the Earth and using that time to promote her setlist. Bleak s**t! Like how are you not having an existential crisis right at that moment,” one person asked.

Look, at least Perry exercised some restraint and serenaded her cabin mates with a few bars of the apt classic What A Wonderful World as they enjoyed the view, rather than aborted 143 lead single Woman’s World.

Meanwhile, at least one other celeb has railed against the A-list joy ride, with model Emily Ratajkowski slamming the participants in a video posted to TikTok.

She called the mission “beyond parody … saying you care about mother earth and you’re going up in a spaceship that is built and paid for by a company that is single-handedly destroying the planet.

“Look at the state of the world and think about how many resources went into this – for what?” she asked.

Perry, author Lauren Sanchez, TV presenter Gayle King, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, former rocket scientist Aisha Bowe and filmmaker Kerianne Flynn few in Amazon owner Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin spacecraft. Ms Sanchez is engaged to Mr Bezos.
