Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman both spotted at Olympic events
Possibly the world’s most famous previously married couple are both in Paris to watch the Olympic Games.
Celebrities are flocking to watch the action at the Paris Olympic Games – among them, perhaps the most famous A-list exes in Hollywood.
Aussie actress Nicole Kidman was spotted in the crowd at the finals of the women’s street skate event at Place de la Concorde yesterday, with husband Keith Urban and daughters Sunday Rose and Faith in tow.
On the same day, Kidman’s ex-husband, actor Tom Cruise, was seen just a few kilometres away watching the Artistic Gymnastics Women's Qualification at Bercy Arena.
Cruise was spotted warmly greeting Olympics Opening Ceremony performer Lady Gaga. She was overheard dropping big news while she chatting to French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal, introducing her longtime boyfriend Michael Polansky, as her “fiance.”
Celeb watchers will be keeping an eye out for any Cruise and Kidman encounters as they both attend Olympic events: The ’90s Hollywood “it” couple have not been seen together in public since they split back in 2001, despite sharing two adopted children together.
The sighting comes after Kidman made some rare comments about her final years with Tom in a recent interview to mark the 25th anniversary of their last film together, Stanley Kubrick’s 1999 erotic thriller Eyes Wide Shut.
In it, the pair played a well-to-do New York married couple, toying with notions of infidelity.
Two years after the film’s release, Cruise filed for divorce, and the pair have uttered few words about each other in public since.
Speaking to the Los Angeles Times, Kidman revealed that she and Cruise had a home 10 minutes away from Pinewood Studios in London where the film was shot, but instead they largely stayed on set and “lived” in a trailer they both shared.
“Tom and I shared it because Stanley would say, ‘You’re not each getting a trailer. We can’t afford it.’ Tom had a smaller area because he was running stuff. And he’d play video games. That was when (Minesweeper) was big. So there was a lot of that,” she said.
The Aussie actress revealed that one moment from the film took her by surprise when it was shown for the audience when she was honoured for her work at the recent 49th AFI Life Achievement Award Gala.
The scene showed Kidman’s character stripped to her underwear and smoking marijuana. She said she was suddenly keenly aware she was sitting with her 16-year-old daughter, Sunday.
Sunday’s reaction to seeing a glimpse of one of her mother’s raciest roles? “She said, ‘Mum, that was good.’”
At the same event, an emotional Urban took to the stage to speak about the difficult times he and Kidman weathered in the earliest part of their marriage.
Fighting back tears, Urban told the audience: “We got married in June 2006, and barely four months into our marriage, the addictions that I had done really nothing about blew our marriage to smithereens.”
“Four months into a marriage, and I’m in rehab for three months with no idea what was going to happen to us. If you want to see what love in action really looks like, give that a whirl,” he continued.
“Nic pushed through every negative voice — I’m sure even some of her own — and she chose love. And here we are tonight 18 years later.”
