There’s a new celeb trend back in fashion
There’s a new celebrity trend taking over and it is cringe, silly and perhaps exactly what the world needs.
OPINION
The only celebrity trends that matter are the ones that ordinary people would look insane copying and that is why we must love famous couples that dress to match.
It is silly, fun, ridiculous and a look you could never pull off in real-life.
If you tried to match with an Aussie bloke you’d just end up wearing R.M Williams boots and a puffer jacket.
You’d look less like a cute couple and more like you were auditioning for The Block.
Currently there’s two couples that are really championing the chic and questionable cause and we owe them our thanks.
Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker and Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz-Beckham.
Thank you for your service.
They are doing the work that Lara Bingle and Sam Worthington rudely refuse to do, even though it is what we all deserve.
Celebrities are pretty conservative with their fashion choices these days. I blame the rise of social media platforms, they have far too much access too feedback and it has made them fashion savvy.
It feels like famous people copy the internet’s trends rather than set the fashion trends for everyone else.
The reality is that besides the big glam events that all famous people attend in fancy dress, we mostly see famous people dressed like us.
The uniform of the young, hot and famous at the moment is the midi denim skirt paired with a white tank top.
It’s a look anyone can copy, seriously head off to Kmart or Cotton On and you’ll get the fit for less than $50.
They’ve become very sensible, so it is a welcome relief to see some celebrities are bringing back the cringe fashion.
For Brooklyn, matching with your partner is in his blood.
Brooklyn’s parents are Victoria and David Beckham. Yes, the iconic duo that was famous for their matching looks in the late nineties and early 2000s.
Victoria and David absolutely hit it out of the park when they wore matching leather catsuits.
These days, they still match, but usually by picking a similar colour palate, not by jamming themselves into catsuits that would absolutely make you sweat bullets and prancing around together like sexy bank robbers.
Couple dressing was an iconic era!
Remember when Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake rocked up wearing matching denim outfits at the 2001 American Music Awards? Now, that was fashion.
So it’s been an absolute joy to see Brooklyn, Nicola, Kourtney and Travis out there slightly embarrassing themselves for our own joy.
Kourtney’s really put in the hard yards.
She went from dressing like someone who shopped at Kookai and bought $40 dollar candles to turning her persona into a ‘girl at the rock show.’
She swapped bandage dresses in neutral tones and started dressing like her rocker boyfriend Travis.
Kourtney now wears oversized band T-shirts and ripped jeans and it s such a 360 fashion wise.
Her new look fits in perfectly with Travis’ style, which is very much a leather jacket, tight pants and some top that shows off his tattoos.
When the two are spotted together, they look like they are about to appear in a parody music video for Blink 182.
Is it high fashion? No way.
Are they fun to look at? Yep.
Brooklyn and Nicola have also embraced matching but in a different way. Their style is more Nicola is the main event, and Brooklyn was told to match.
She’ll wear a sexy pink dress, and he’ll wear a plain pink pair of pants and a nice T-shirt. Basically, the theme of their matching is that she’s the star, and his outfit indicates he belongs with her.
Is it particularly chic? Absolutely not!
Is it fun to look at? Ding, Ding!
That’s the best part about famous couples dressing the same it’s so ridiculous and self-indulgent and no ordinary person could get away with it, which is why I love it.
