Simon Baker, 53, spends Easter weekend with mystery girlfriend
Aussie actor Simon Baker enjoyed the Easter long weekend with his rumoured new love interest, as they frolicked in the waves at Byron Bay.
Simon Baker soaked up the sunshine this Easter long weekend, hitting up a beach at the NSW coastal town of Byron Bay with his rumoured new girlfriend.
The loved-up actor was seen chasing the mystery blonde around on the sand before they playfully jumped into the surf together and were joined by Baker’s adult sons: Claude, 24, and Harry, 21.
Not much is known about Baker’s rumoured new love, but the 53-year-old was first linked to the same woman in November last year. On that outing, the pair also enjoyed a day of sun and surf at Sydney’s Bondi Beach.
Baker’s apparent new romance comes one year since his split from activewear designer Laura May Gibbs in November 2021.
Like his new relationship, The Mentalist star and Gibbs debuted their romance in February 2021 also at a beach in Bryon Bay.
Unfortunately, their union did not go the distance with the couple calling it quits nine months later amid talk that Gibbs’ anti-vaxxer stance was a deal-breaker for Baker – claims she has labelled “simply not true” as their split was amicable.
“I never discuss my private life, but I will say this – the friendship and respect I share with [Simon] runs too deep for the media’s noise to have any true impact in our lives,” she said in a statement shared on Instagram, following speculation Baker called it off because she attended an anti-vaccine mandate protest at the Queensland-NSW border.
“I won’t apologise for voicing my concerns, when I see so many struggling, losing their livelihoods and being silenced, shamed and ridiculed for wanting to ask questions,” she added. “Activism is important to me, I’ve attended numerous environmental rallies and Indigenous rights protests, and taken action in all of these areas.”
Baker’s relationship with Gibbs was his first significant one since his divorce from Aussie actress Rebecca Rigg, who is known for her roles in A Country Practice, Blue Heelers and LA Doctors. Rigg and Baker share sons Claude and Harry as well as daughter Stella, 29.
The star, who has had a successful acting career in the US, was with Rigg for 29 years – 22 of which they were married – before announcing their divorce in January 2021.
“We remain close friends and our three children will always be the most important focus of our lives,” they said in a joint statement when they split.
The couple played love interests on the popular ’90 TV series E Street, although they actually met on a blind date in 1991. In 1998, they made it official with two separate wedding ceremonies – one in Australia and the other in the beachside region of Carmel in Monterey, California.
In a 2015 interview with The Daily Telegraph, Baker said Rigg was “the greatest woman any man could ever hope to make a life with”.
“Marrying her was the best decision I ever made,” he said at the time.
