OPINION

Seven star Samantha Armytage recently stepped out in double denim. She’s never looked better, and no one should be surprised.

Armytage was practically glowing as she was spotted sauntering into Seven’s offices looking rested and chic.

There’s long been a myth that, like milk, women have an expiry date and start to go off once they enter their thirties. And it’s a myth that needs to die.

This is ridiculous. Women get better looking as they age, and Sam, 47, has proved this once again.

There are a couple of reasons the expiration theory doesn’t check out, and why women look and feel better as they mature. One of these is money.

Sure, someone like Armytage has Sunrise show money, so she’s got a little extra than the rest of us, but this isn’t a syndrome exclusive to famous women.

For most of us, our 20s are our time for being broke. We are studying and working on low wages as we start our careers, and the bulk of our cash goes on alcohol and bizarre things that seem important at the time.

When I was at my most skint, I used to exclusively buy my tea from the up-market tea chain T2 because I thought it made me look grown-up and sophisticated.

Yes, step over the lounge that has been squashed into the dining room because the lounge room is used as a mate’s bedroom for $150 a week and be impressed by my $20 tea selection.

It wasn’t perfect logic but it was mine.

As you age, your wage starts to increase, you start to see two-minute noodles as less of an obvious food group, and you get better looking.

Naturally you’ll move away from $10 tops that don’t suit you because that is all you can afford and start investing in more expensive ones that aren’t so flammable.

You work a few basic things out, like box-dying your hair black when you have pale skin doesn’t make you look like a sexy Snow White but comes across more like a cry for help.

You feel less influenced by trends because you are more aware of who you are. You won’t get peer-pressured into low-rise jeans again.

As a result, you start to look better. You work out what looks good on you and have enough cash to invest in yourself. Suddenly you start growing into the best version of yourself.

There are some obvious examples in celebrity land. Jackie “O” Henderson, 49, has never looked more glowing or like a fashion icon in the last two years.

Former PR Queen Roxy Jacenko, 44, recently relocated to Singapore and popped back into Sydney and looked divine.

These women aren’t in their 20s anymore, and they actually don’t look like they are either. The look better.

They look like women who know themselves and are self-assured, gorgeous, and powerful.

Time gives you the years to discover who you are, how you want to look and what suits you. Combine that with a decent wage and women age into unstoppable attractive forces.

Of course, Armytage has never looked better. She’s got the money and experience behind her to look her best.
