Mick Molloy copped quite the backlash – from his followers, and his radio co-hosts – over a photo he posted to Instagram over the weekend.

Can’t a man post an innocent holiday snap from a Noosa getaway without triggering a social media backlash?
Aussie comedian and radio host Mick Molloy was on-air on Triple M’s Mick and MG in the Morning today, enthusing about his recent holiday to the popular beach town.

“Heads were turning. I think people kind of recognised me – maybe thought I was a triathlete,” Molloy joked.

His co-hosts told him they’d already seen his getaway – a lot of it. They said they couldn’t help but notice a certain photo Molloy had apparently posted to his own account on Friday.

“It’s you with your legs spread in your lolly bags (Speedos) in a pool deck chair, with the caption ‘Hello ladies, dinner’s on,’” announcer Cat Lynch said.

“It needed a trigger warning! I was about to start afternoon drinks and I thought, I’m not even hungry now,” said newsreader Natarsha Belling.

Lynch then read out a selection of the top comments under the post on Instagram.

Molloy took the backlash in good humour.
Molloy took the backlash in good humour.

“The first one is, ‘Mmm … pass.’ The next one is ‘Where’s the eye bleach?’ Someone has just put a meme of someone crying. One is ‘Wouldn’t even make a Bunnings BBQ,’ ‘First photo on my feed today while I’m trying to eat my Weetbix,’ and ‘What’s the go with your feet – have you been firewalking?’” she recounted.

“I’m very, very upset by this – please go to a song,” said Molloy, tongue firmly in cheek, before channelling Kamahl: “Why are people so cruel?”

Sorry, Mick, the comments didn’t end there. Some other pearlers under the post:

“Some things I don’t need to see, this has to be one of them.”

“Weekend at Bernie’s.”

“What is seen, cannot be unseen.”

Let’s end on a positive note, shall we? At least somebody was a fan: “Looking mighty fine there Micky! I’d go for a ride,” wrote one very keen commenter.
