Margot Robbie arrives in Australia on Barbie press tour
Aussie actress Margot Robbie has made a very Barbie arrival in Sydney this morning, as her global press tour for the film gets underway.
Margot Robbie has been photographed landing in Sydney as she kicks off her global Barbie world press tour.
Even after the long-haul flight from the US, the Australian actress, 32, remained dedicated to the Barbie-core style she’s recently adopted in the lead-up to the highly-anticipated film’s July release.
Robbie, who plays Barbie in the movie, looked chic as she stepped off the plane at Sydney Airport on Wednesday, wearing loose trousers with a white cropped top and Barbie-pink chequered blazer.
It matched perfectly with her pink and beige luggage set and retro-style heels.
The actress was accompanied by her husband, British producer Tom Ackerley, who showed his support for his wife’s latest project by wearing a Barbie pink cap as they walked through the terminal.
Before jetting off to Australia, the actress joined her fellow Barbie castmates – including actor Ryan Gosling, who stars as Ken in the film – at a publicity event in Beverly Hills.
The Barbie photo call came just days after the film’s press tour officially got underway in the US, with new images released of Robbie in character in a pink vintage-style two-piece outfit with matching accessories and a pink car.
Robbie was officially cast as the titular character in the Barbie film in 2019 after Warner Bros secured the distribution rights, with Gerwig signing on to write the screenplay alongside husband Noah Baumbach, and later adding director to her credits.
While Robbie was attached to the project early on, with her production company LuckyChap Entertainment teaming up with Heyday Films and Mattel Films, she admitted to Vogue US last month that she and Gerwig had initially tried to recruit another star to play the iconic doll.
“This is going to sound stupid, but I really didn’t even think about playing Barbie until years into developing the project,” the actress told the magazine.
Instead, Robbie first had Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot in mind.
“Gal Gadot is Barbie energy. Because Gal Gadot is so impossibly beautiful, but you don’t hate her for being that beautiful, because she’s so genuinely sincere, and she’s so enthusiastically kind that it’s almost dorky,” Robbie said. “It’s like right before being a dork.”
However, once it became clear Gadot was unavailable, the Aussie star stepped in.
Barbie will be released in Australian theatres on July 20.
