Margot Robbie stuns at Barbie photo call in Beverly Hills

The Aussie actress has stayed committed to her Barbie theme ahead of the release of her much-anticipated movie about the iconic doll.

Barbie, Oppenheimer memes taking over the internet and saving cinema

Margot Robbie has once again proven her dedication to her latest film role, turning up for a recent photo call in full Barbie glam.

The Australian actress, 32, joined her fellow Barbie castmates at a publicity event in Beverly Hills for the highly-anticipated movie, which is set to be released next month.

Robbie stunned in a retro pink halter dress with white polka dots and a stomach cut-out, and accessorised with chunky pearl jewellery and white pump heels.

She posed alongside Ryan Gosling – who stars as Ken in the Greta Gerwig-directed film – and co-stars including Issa Rae, Kate McKinnon and America Ferrera, who were all co-ordinated in neutral colours.

A pop-up Barbie set, featuring a retro pink and white convertible and fake palm trees, had even been set up to mark the occasion.

The Barbie photo call comes just days after the film’s press tour officially got underway, with new images released of Robbie in character in a pink vintage-style two-piece outfit with matching accessories and a pink car.

Meanwhile, a hot pink mansion bearing striking similarities to Barbie’s “Dreamhouse” mysteriously popped up in Malibu over the weekend.

Aerial footage captured by a local news helicopter cameraman, John Schreiber, showed a three-storey property with the iconic dance floor and a pink slide feeding into a luxurious pool which contained giant floating letters spelling out “KEN”.

Just in case there was any doubt left as to the owner of the mystery home, Mattel’s famous sunburst Barbie logo could also be seen from the sky. Oddly, Ken’s name appeared to have been written in blue over the top of “Barbie” on the sign in the backyard.

Robbie was officially cast as the titular character in the Barbie film in 2019 after Warner Bros secured the distribution rights, with Gerwig signing on to write the screenplay alongside husband Noah Baumbach, and later adding director to her credits.

While Robbie was attached to the project early on, with her production company LuckyChap Entertainment teaming up with Heyday Films and Mattel Films, she admitted to Vogue US last month that she and Gerwig had initially tried to recruit another star to play the iconic doll.

“This is going to sound stupid, but I really didn’t even think about playing Barbie until years into developing the project,” the actress told the magazine.

Instead, Robbie first had Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot in mind.

“Gal Gadot is Barbie energy. Because Gal Gadot is so impossibly beautiful, but you don’t hate her for being that beautiful, because she’s so genuinely sincere, and she’s so enthusiastically kind that it’s almost dorky,” Robbie said. “It’s like right before being a dork.”

However, once it became clear Gadot was unavailable, the Aussie star stepped in.

Barbie will be released in Australian theatres on July 20.
