Former Neighbours star Holly Valance has made a rare red carpet outing, stepping out with her billionaire husband Nick Candy for the UK Conservative Party’s lavish summer ball in London this week.

The Kiss Kiss singer, 38, who now goes by Holly Candy, was photographed arriving to the posh fundraising event at the Victoria and Albert Museum on Monday night in a stunning pink tulle gown, her property developer husband looking dapper beside her.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was also in attendance, along with Chancellor Rishi Sunak and some of the UK Conservative party’s most senior figures.

However, the event’s timing has come into question, taking place the evening before Britain was hit by the biggest rail strike in over 30 years, plunging commuters into chaos for 24 hours.

According to Yahoo!, guests arriving to the ball were booed by union members involved in the strikes who had positioned themselves outside the museum to protest.

Leader of the Liberal Democrats Ed Davey later lashed out at the gathering, telling the Evening Standard: “Yet again, Conservative politicians are partying whilst everyone else in London suffers. It is utterly shameful ministers chose their donors over commuters.

“Londoners face travel misery today, which could have been avoided if Transport Secretary Grant Shapps did his job.

“He owes an apology to all those nurses, parents and carers left stranded today because he refused to meet with unions.”

It comes weeks after the rarely-seen former actress and pop star was pictured meeting with former US President Donald Trump at his Mar-A-Lago estate in April.

Fans of the Aussie star were stunned to spot her in a photo posted to social media by British broadcaster and former politician Nigel Farage, which showed Farage smiling, arm in arm with the former actress.

Also in the picture: Holly’s husband, billionaire property investor Nick Candy (far left), and Donald Trump.

“Great dinner at Mar-A-Lago!” Farage captioned the photo.

The picture earned quite the reaction from social media users, with some fans of Holly’s former pop career expressing disappointment she’d meet with Trump. One dubbed the photo “One of the strangest pics I’ve seen in a long time”.

Holly has largely retreated from the public eye in recent years, with only occasional posts to her public Twitter account. One of her most recent tweets, posted in July last year, was a link to a petition calling to “outlaw discrimination against those who do not get a Covid-19 vaccination.” Encouraging her followers to sign it, she warned: “This ain’t Nth Korea. For now.”

Melbourne-born Holly got her start playing Felicity “Flick” Scully on Neighbours in 1999.

She parlayed her soapie fame into a briefly successful pop career, scoring three top 10 hit singles both here and in the UK in the early noughties, including the number 1 Kiss Kiss.

Working alongside his brother, her husband Nick is known for developing projects like London’s One Hyde Park, one of the most expensive residential buildings in the world, and has an estimated net worth of $2 billion.

The couple made headlines last year when they added yet another luxury home to their portfolio, buying a historical and heritage listed mansion in the exclusive Oxfordshire area of the Cotswolds in the UK for a hush-hush price that was reported to be “well over” AU$18.6m.
