First look at Australian actor Liam Hemsworth on-set of Netflix’s ‘The Witcher’
Fans have been treated to a first look at Liam Hemsworth on-set of a hit Netflix fantasy series – after he replaced the A-list lead.
Liam Hemsworth has been spotted in character for the first time on-set of Netflix’s hit fantasy series The Witcher.
The Australian actor, 34, replaced British star Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia for the upcoming fourth season.
His casting was announced back in October 2022, and now, diehard fans of the popular franchise have been given a first look at Hemsworth in the beloved role.
Pictured on-set in Devon, southwest England, Hemsworth could be seen sporting Geralt’s icy white hair, an all-black outfit and sword in hand as he filmed scenes on the beach.
In another photo, the Hunger Games actor was spotted acting out a fight scene with fellow Aussie Mahesh Jadu, who has portrayed the character of Vilgefortz since the first season in 2019.
The Witcher kicked off production on season 4 in April, while the streamer has also greenlit a fifth season – which will be the last.
At the time Cavill announced his exit, the Man of Steel star didn’t specify why he was leaving the high-profile role, only saying he was thrilled Hemsworth would be filling his shoes.
“My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for season four,” Cavill wrote on Instagram.
He continued, “In my stead, the fantastic Mr Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf. As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam’s take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men.
“Liam, good sir, this character has such a wonderful depth to him, enjoy diving in and seeing what you can find.”
Hemsworth was chuffed with Cavill’s endorsement, writing in his own post, “As a Witcher fan I’m over the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia.
“Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt and I’m honoured that he’s handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf’s blades for the next chapter of his adventure.
“Henry, I’ve been a fan of yours for years and was inspired by what you brought to this beloved character. I may have some big boots to fill, but I’m truly excited to be stepping into The Witcher world.”
There’s no word on when the upcoming season will hit streaming, though it’s expected to drop sometime in late 2024, early 2025.
