Christina Applegate emerges for Hollywood Walk of Fame star ceremony

Christina Applegate has emerged for the very first time since her MS diagnosis last year, sporting bare feet and aided by a walking stick.

Christina Applegate reveals MS diagnosis

Christina Applegate has made her first public appearance since announcing her multiple sclerosis diagnosis last year.

The 50-year-old US actress, who just last week revealed she hadn’t been out since August 2021, attended a ceremony to receive her star on the coveted Walk of Fame in Hollywood on Tuesday.

Walking with the help of a cane, a barefoot Applegate made a brief acceptance speech, where she was seen sporting a manicure that read, ‘FU MS’.

She was helped at the ceremony by her former Married With Children on-screen mum Katey Sagal.

“I can’t stand for too long so I’m going to thank the people I really need to thank,” Applegate began.

The Anchorman star thanked “the most important person in the world,” her 11-year-old daughter, Sadie, who she shares with her musician husband, Dutch bassist Martyn LeNoble.

“Thank you for standing beside me during all this,” Applegate said.

Applegate, who previously said she’d gained 18kg since being dianogsed, reportedly referred to herself as “the disabled lady”, and made a self-deprecating comment about her condition.

“Oh, by the way I have a disease. Did you not notice? I’m not even wearing shoes. Anyhoo, You’re supposed to laugh at this.”

Prior to attending the ceremony, Applegate said she was preparing for a “very important” event – which would mark her first time out in over a year – as she shared a photo of her walking stick options on Twitter.

“This will be my first time out since [being] diagnosed with MS. Walking sticks are now part of my new normal,” she continued, telling fans to “stay tuned to see which ones make the cut for a week of stuff”.

In an interview with Variety at the weekend, the Dead To Me star also suggested her acting career could be over due to her condition.

“Jen Harding is the one, who knows, quite possibly the last one I’ll play,” Applegate said, referencing her character in the Netflix hit.

“With my disease, I don’t know how capable I am. But this was a gift. This was a gift to me.”

Applegate, who has been working in showbiz since she was a child actor in the ’70s, first opened up about her health issues in August 2021, announcing on Twitter that it had been a “strange journey” but that she had been “so supported”.

“It’s been a tough road,” she added at the time. “But as we all know, the road keeps going. Unless some a**hole blocks it.

“As one of my friends that has MS said, ‘We wake up and take the indicated action.’ And that’s what I do. So now I ask for privacy as I go through this thing. Thank you xo.”
