Christina Applegate says she’s preparing to head out for the “first time” since being diagnosed with MS last year, as she shared a sad detail about her “new normal”.

Christina Applegate is getting ready for her first big public appearance since being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis last year.

The 50-year-old actress took to Twitter on Friday to share a photo of the walking sticks she plans on using during the event, New York Post reports.

“I have a very important ceremony coming up,” she wrote alongside a snap of five different walking sticks.

“This will be my first time out since [being] diagnosed with MS. Walking sticks are now part of my new normal,” she continued, telling fans to “stay tuned to see which ones make the cut for a week of stuff”.

The Dead To Me star announced she was diagnosed with the auto-immune disease last August.

“Hi friends. A few months ago I was diagnosed with MS. It’s been a strange journey. But I have been so supported by people that I know who also have this condition,” Applegate tweeted at the time.

“It’s been a tough road. But as we all know, the road keeps going. Unless some a**hole blocks it.

“As one of my friends that has MS said, ‘We wake up and take the indicated action.’ And that’s what I do. So now I ask for privacy as I go through this thing. Thank you xo.”

Since then, Applegate has taken a step back from the spotlight, occasionally popping back on to social media to give fans an update.

On her 50th birthday last November, the actress reflected on her new normal and the challenges that came with it.

“Yup. I turned 50 today. And I have MS,” the actress tweeted. “It’s been a hard one. Sending so much love to all of you this day.

“Many are hurting today, and I am thinking of you,” she continued. “May we find that strength to lift our heads up. Mine currently is on my pillow. But I try.”

Although Applegate struggles to find strength some days, she can rely on her Sweetest Thing co-star Selma Blair – who was diagnosed with the debilitating disease in 2018.

Following her diagnosis, Blair contacted Applegate to let her know she is “always here”.

Applegate has been married to Dutch bassist Martyn LeNoble since 2013 and the pair have 11-year-old daughter Sadie.
