Sophie Delezio announces incredible family news

Burns survivor Sophie Delezio has announced that she’s given birth to her first baby, and she’s revealed the sweet name she’s chosen.

Survivor Sophie Delezio has welcomed her first child with fiance Joseph Salerno.

Delezio, 23, shared the news on Friday afternoon on social media, revealing that she had given birth last week.

“Welcome to the world, Frankie,” she wrote in an Instagram caption posted alongside a black and white image of her baby boy’s hand.

“Our hearts are so full.”

Delezio’s father Ron told The Daily Telegraph that the birth of his grandchild was “just lovely”.

“It’s a great credit to Dr Peter Haywood,” he said. “He put everything back in the right place, all working very well.”

The couple, who reside in Sydney’s Northern Beaches, first announced their pregnancy in July, which came a year after they revealed their engagement in April 2023.

At 36 weeks pregnant, Ms Delezio revealed pregnancy has been a “whole new world of anxiety”, but she is adamant the couple won’t let what happened to her impact on how to raise their son.

“There’s so much you can’t control … you want to make sure that everything you’re consuming, everything you’re doing, is right for the child inside of you, but you don’t know how they’re going all the time,” she said.

“It’s very nerve-wracking, but I’m excited to have him here and then not to have to worry about if I can eat a runny egg, silly things like that.”

Adding to the excitement of Delezio’s birth is the fact that her brother and his partner are also expecting a child, just weeks apart from her.

“Our whole families are so excited. It’s a very special experience,” she previously said.

Delezio captured the hearts of the nation after she was trapped under a car that crashed through her daycare centre in 2003, leaving her with burns to 85 per cent of her body.

She lost both her legs below the knee, her right hand and right ear.

She was later involved in a second car accident in 2006 where she was thrown 18m from her wheelchair her nanny had been pushing near her Northern Beaches home.

Delezio suffered several injuries, including a broken jaw, and had a heart attack.

She grew up with all of Australia behind her as they watched her remarkable recovery from the two shocking incidents.
