Cardi B slammed over wild spending brag on Twitter
Rapper Cardi B has been torn to shreds on Monday after bragging on Twitter about wanting to spend $88k on a handbag.
Cardi B was forced to defend herself on Monday, after the rapper went on a wild spending brag on Twitter.
It all began when she asked her Twitter followers: “Should I spend 88K for this damn purse? Omggg it’s tempting.”

The tweet sparked a huge debate on Twitter about the star’s spending habits, with many fans urging her to instead put the money toward charity.
You should set up a mutual aid network in the Bronx instead bc you know no purse is worth more than 4 figures at most

Or you could pay the rent for a family or five for an entire year. I mean, charity is a hot accessory.

Others called out Cardi’s insensitivity to be flaunting such wealth while the world is going through a pandemic, with many people struggling.
I mean like... 40 million people are on the brink of homelessness. It's just not at all relatable to brag about spend more on a purse than what people even make in a year when millions of people are starving/homeless/sick.

The backlash was so immense that Cardi B followed up her initial tweet with receipts that she has been donating a lot of her money to charity, sharing one article that read: “Cardi B Donates $1 Million For coronavirus Relief”.

But it didn’t end there, with Cardi B going on to reveal that she has been spending a large portion of her money to help her own, large family.

Despite providing her fans with evidence that she has been using her money for good, the criticism rolled continued on, but Cardi B wasn’t taking any of it lying down.
One fan responded to her initial tweet with some choice words about how she should have gone to her “celeb” friends to ask the “obtuse” question, and not Twitter.
The issue is I really donât have celeb https://t.co/q8HUYigB2c only celeb friend is my https://t.co/LTPOnbnLoh real fans be giving me advice & I mostly go by with it.Its not my fault ð¤·ð½ââï¸BARDIGANG are my https://t.co/XN2d7TS8gd on twitter for THEM not for YOU! https://t.co/EFAv4rgGHC

Cardi then went on to create a challenge out of the drama, asking her followers to show her what they have donated, saying that she will match their donation to the same charity foundation.

However, some fans were still dissatisfied with the rapper’s efforts.
“It doesn’t matter how much money you give away, tweeting about buying an $88,000 purse in the midst of a pandemic, where people are skipping meals and terrified that they’ll be evicted, is deeply insensitive and unnecessary,” one follower tweeted, to which Cardi had a snappy response.
Go cry about it.I never seen u tweet about me when I donated a million dollar twice now you hereðI didnât offended no body, didnât do nothing illegal .Im not going to apologize because I work my ass off and I ask MY FANS! Which ARE MY FRIENDS A QUESTION!Ya want to be hurt so bad https://t.co/5lj2miobRF

Some even accused her of ‘gaslighting’ them.

Eventually, Cardi did apologise, in the same tweet calling out very specifically people who never asked President Donald Trump for an apology when he was out playing golf instead of attending COVID meetings …
Ok guys I apologize. There you happy ?! I donât see ya askin trump for a apology when he out here missing COVID meetings to play golf but ðð½

It’s not the first time the star has come under fire for her internet activity.
Cardi copped backlash in October this year when she accidentally uploaded a nude photo of herself to Instagram.
The rapper briefly shared a topless photo of herself on her Instagram Story by mistake after celebrating her birthday in Las Vegas, according to Billboard.
After realising her blunder, Cardi shared a voice memo on Twitter.
“Lord, Lord, why the f**k you have to make me so stupid and r******d? Why? Why, why, why?” she said.
“You know what, I’m never going to beat myself up about it.”
The star said she planned to put the gaffe behind her and not dwell on the mistake.
“I’m going to eat my breakfast, and then I’m going to go to a party because I’m not even going to think about it,” she said.
“I am not going to think about it, OK? Nope, no I’m not. I’m not. It is what it is. Sh*t happens. F**k it, it’s not even the first time. I mean, I used to f***ing be a stripper so whatever.”

She also posted a message on her Instagram Story which read, “I did not posted (sic) no story about me suing nobody … nobody to be sued. It was my f**k up … sh*t happens.”
After posting her message on Twitter, however, the WAP rapper caught backlash for her use of the R-word.
“Not you saying the r-word in 2020 …” said one commenter.
“The r word,” added another. “How do you have fans.”
A third wrote: “Someone tell cardi b to stop using the r word please. it is so disrespectful and people have told her multiple times to stop.”
“Please don’t use the R word. I love you but my child is disabled and that word really hurts,” wrote a fan. “Makes me cringe.”
