Bachelor Matty J saved an elderly couple from being attacked: ‘I pinned him to the ground’

The beloved Bachelor star fought off two men who attacked an elderly couple while he was in Byron Bay, pinning them down until police arrived.

The Bachelor star Matthew ‘Matty J’ Johnson recently took a family trip to Byron Bay with his fiancee Laura Byrne and their one-year-old daughter Marlie Mae.

However, the trip wasn’t all that relaxing.

While chatting on the Matt, Sarah and Matty J show this weekend, the 33-year-old explained how he helped save an elderly couple from being attacked by two young men.

“I’m looking around, the park is really busy, everyone is frozen and shocked,” he said.

“I dropped my phone and start running full pelt, running, there is not a thought in my mind, I just know I have to save this couple. I tackled the guy, I bring him to the ground … I had him pinned to the ground.”

He continued: “Next thing I’ve got one guy pinned to the ground, I’m holding another one back and everyone’s come over, the police have arrived.”

Thankfully, Matty J was unharmed during the confrontation, however he was required to “give evidence to the police”.

The news comes after Matty J and Laura announced that they were expecting their second child last week.

“Marlie-Mae learning shocked face couldn’t have been timed any better. WE’RE HAVING A BABY!” Matty wrote alongside a beachside family photo on Instagram.

“Brace yourself for twice the amount of dad jokes,” he added.

Laura posted a similar photo on Instagram, with the caption: “I reckon we’ve kept this little beach ball under wraps for long enough … Halfway to number two.

“A big shout out to @matthewdavidjohnson for his contribution,” the 31-year-old added.

“You’re hands down my favourite Bachelor, I love you forever and our little family.”
