'Sorry': Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis react to backlash over That '70s Show co-star

Ashton Kutcher and wife Mila Kunis are reportedly worried they will fall victims to cancel culture after they publicly showed their support for convicted rapist and That 70s Show co-star Danny Masterson.

The couple faced backlash after it was revealed they had written letters to the judge during the actor’s rape trial.

Kutcher, 45, and Kunis, 40, had both written glowing references about Masterson, seeking leniency in his sentencing after he was convicted on two rape counts stemming from the early 2000s – a move by the couple that has attracted criticism.

In the aftermath of their character references, the pair have resigned “effective immediately” from an anti-child sex abuse organisation Kutcher co-founded in 2012 to prevent the sexual exploitation of children worldwide.

And now they fear Hollywood and fans will turn their backs on them altogether.

“They legitimately feel like they are getting cancelled,” a source told the Daily Mail.
“With all the people railing against them, it isn’t going to go away anytime soon, and they are feeling it. They are hoping as time passes, people will forget and or move on from their criticism.”

“But as of right now, they are anticipating that the damage of it all might affect obtaining future work in film and TV.”

Should the work opportunities stop coming, the couple will reportedly financially rely on the long-running Fox cartoon sitcom Family Guy, in which Kunis voices the character of Meg.

“One saving grace financially speaking. Mila’s voice work will continue on Family Guy, she will have that forever,” the source said.

“The cast and crew of Family Guy has her back.”

Following the public backlash, Kutcher and Kunis released a video on Instagram apologising to the victims, while also explaining why they chose to write references for Masterson.

“We are aware of the pain that has been caused by the character letters that we wrote on behalf of Danny Masterson,” he said in the video, as his wife added: “We support victims. We have done this historically through our work and will continue to do so in the future.”

Kutcher said they had not written to “undermine the testimony of the victims or retraumatise them in any way”.

“And we’re sorry if that has been the case,” he said.

“Our heart goes out to every single person who has ever been a victim of sexual assault, sexual abuse or rape,” Kunis finished.
