Actress Jamie Lee Curtis held back tears during an interview as she condemned Kanye West over his anti-Semitic tweet.
Over the weekend, the rapper, who legally goes by Ye, targeted Jewish people in his tweet.
“I’m a bit sleepy tonight but when I wake up I’m going death con 3 On JEWISH PEOPLE,” the Grammy winner wrote. It is likely he meant DEFCON 3, a reference to the US military’s alert system.
“The funny thing is I actually can’t be Anti Semitic because black people are actually Jew also,” he continued.
“You guys have toyed with me and tried to black ball anyone whoever opposes your agenda.”

During an interview with US TV show Today, Curtis told host Hoda Kotb that she “woke up and burst into tears” after reading the singer’s since-deleted post.
The Halloween star, who responded to West’s tweet, said during the emotional interview, “‘DEFCON 3 on Jewish people?’ What are you doing?”
“I mean, it’s bad enough that fascism is on the rise around the world, but on Twitter?
“On a portal to pour that in, as if Jewish people haven’t had it hard enough … If Asian people haven’t had enough. I mean, it was just abhorrent.”
The True Lies actress — whose father, late actor Tony Curtis, was the son of Hungarian-Jewish emigrants — said she “woke up and I thought, ‘My grandparents?’” as she read West’s post.
“It’s just abhorrent. It’s abhorrent behaviour. I hope he gets help. I hope his children get help from him. It’s terrible,” she said in tears.
She continued, “And if we weren’t reacting, who are we? What does it say about people who aren’t reacting?
“Who woke up and read that and thought, ‘Oh, what are you having for breakfast?’”
In her original response to West’s post, Curtis pleaded with him to stop his harmful rhetoric.
“The holiest day in Judaism was last week,” she tweeted.
“A threat to Jewish people ended once in a genocide.
“Your words hurt and incite violence. You are a father. Please stop.”

The infamous post has since been taken down after the Donda rapper violated the platform’s policies.
According to The Wrap, the Gold Digger singer was locked out of both Twitter and Instagram following his anti-Semitic remarks.
West was restricted on Instagram for the use of alleged anti-Semitic language during an exchange with Diddy, NBC News reported.
A Meta spokesperson told CNN that content from West’s Instagram account was deleted for violating the company’s policies and a restriction was placed on his account.
