Margot Robbie speaks about her new role in I, Tonya

IF ANY of Margot Robbie’s movies were hated by the critics or flopped at the box office, she could easily blame it on someone else. This time, things are a little different.

Margot Robbie stars as disgraced Olympic figure skater in the film I, Tonya.

MARGOT Robbie might be one of the most in-demand actresses in Hollywood right now but never before has the 27-year-old star been so scared.

Sitting down with Stellar Magazine, the Gold Coast actress explained why there’s so much riding on her new movie I, Tonya.

“I have never been so nervous for people to see a movie in my entire life. We go all out in this movie. So, are people going to get it? Are they going to respond to it? I mean, is the public going to hate it and the critics love it, or the other way around? Or are they all going to hate it and no-one loves it?”

Robbie nabbed her first starring role in I, Tonya, the dark biopic of the 1994 attack on Nancy Kerrigan, a fellow Olympic figure skater and Tonya Harding’s rival.

It also happens to be the first movie produced by Robbie and her husband’s production company Lucky Chap.

“The weight has never been on my shoulders in this way. It’s always been shared around. And to be a producer on this [means] I can’t blame anyone else if people don’t like it. I can’t say, ‘The filmmakers made some bad choices!’ Because, well, I was a part of all those choices. If this sucks, it’s my fault in large part,” she toldStellar.

Robbie was born in rural Queensland, gracing Australian TV screens in Neighbours before giving Hollywood a shot in 2010.

Three years later, when the 27-year-old starred alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in The Wolf of Wall Street, the world fell in love with her.

But despite Robbie clearly embracing Los Angeles and all of the craziness that comes with it, the actress admitted she still misses “everything” about Australia.

“From something as trivial as good coffee or hearing a certain bird — something random that you don’t realise you are going to miss when you go. I miss the thunderstorms more than anything; nowhere else has good thunderstorms like you do on the Gold Coast,” she told the magazine.

Robbie, who is planning on returning to Australia in 2018 to make movies with Lucky Chap, said missing family events especially “sucks”.

“Obviously big things like my family and my friends, being there to see my nephew grow up, weddings, funerals, all those big important moments where everyone comes together. To be away during those things sucks. But even the small things suck. Like, I miss Burger Rings, I miss Nutri-Grain! I can’t wait to go back,” she said.

I, Tonya will hit Australian cinemas on January 25, 2018.
