New book suggests outlandish explanation for MH370 mystery

A NEW book takes 240-pages to reach a conclusion that most of us probably could have reached on our own.

A NEW book examining the mystery of MH370 has concluded the most likely explanation for the plane’s disappearance is a cyber-jacking using advanced technologies.

“Someone Is Hiding Something” takes its name from a blog by former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad in which he accuses the CIA of withholding information about MH370.

The book’s authors Richard Belzer, David Wayne and George Noory provide a detailed examination of the main features of the Boeing 777-200ER and the extent of international radar and satellite systems.

They conclude that the disappearance of MH370 defies all logical explanation given the sophistication of the aircraft, and global satellite coverage.

“The notion perpetrated in the media that a plane “disappears” from tracking when the transponder is turned off is patently false,” says the book.

“It simply is not credible that the plane avoided radar after it flew off its route.”

With little firm evidence to go on, the writers suggest a more sinister scenario involving a remote-control hijacking or large scale cover-up.

“Cyber hijacking is about the only possibility that fits the above circumstances insofar as the known evidence regarding the actions of the plane,” the book said.

“We’re not saying that’s what happened. We are saying that the official version of ‘We lost the plane and it may never be found’ is an obvious ruse and a very weak one at that.”

Respected US aviation safety expert Captain John Cox dismissed the notion of a remote takeover of the plane.

“Cyber jacking is far-fetched with no evidence,” said Capt Cox.

“Airplanes are shielded to prevent such acts.”

It will be a year Sunday week that the Malaysia Airlines’ jet went missing en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, with 239 passengers and crew on board, including six Australians.

Just seven pages of the 240-page book are devoted to the official line that the plane diverted from its flight path for reasons unknown, and passengers most probably deprived of oxygen before the aircraft ran out of fuel and crashed.

“(There is) no evidence of this, or real motive for it,” the book concludes dismissively.

Australian authorities were not in a position to comment on the book but insisted everything humanly possible was being done to locate the aircraft.

“We are very happy with the cooperation we’ve received and the support for the search we are undertaking,“ said Australian Transport Safety Bureau Commissioner Martin Dolan.

“We’ve had access to all the information we need to make our determinations and we’re not seeing any resistance to any of the questions we’ve been asking to support the search.”

Commissioner Dolan said above all else, he wanted to find the aircraft to finally provide answers to grieving next of kin.

“That’s the thing that weighs not just on me but everyone involved in the search and I think also gives us the drive and energy to find the aircraft,” he said.
