Rami Malek had to be treated by paramedics and was rushed backstage after tumbling off the stage following his best actor win.
Rami Malek’s Oscars night has taken a bumpy turn, with the best actor winner treated by paramedics and rushed backstage after taking a tumble.
The Bohemian Rhapsody star fell from the Dolby Theatre stage while still clutching his Oscar just moments after the ceremony ended.
Cameras were on hand to capture the moment, with Malek holding onto his Oscar before dropping it while onlookers rushed to help him.
According to People, paramedics were in called to treat Malek and he was moved from the audience seats to a room backstage to be examined in private.
Malek missed some photos alongside fellow Oscar winners Olivia Colman, Regina King and Mahershala Ali because of the mishap, but did not mention his fall when being interviewed afterwards.
Malek won the best actor Oscar for his role as Freddie Mercury, beating out tough competition from Bradley Cooper and Christian Bale.
Backstage after his win Malek acknowledged it had been a “tough battle” and “proof that anything is possible”.
“The one thing I can say about this, as an actor, there are so many of us who dream of one thing. Perhaps it’s not this, it’s just getting a job,” he said.
“The fact that I have this is beyond any expectation that myself or my family could have ever had. I’ll just say that.”
