MTV VMAs 2023: Selena Gomez’s disgusted reaction to Chris Brown’s nomination caught on camera

Footage from the MTV VMAs has shown the singer making her feelings very clear when a fellow celebrity’s nomination was announced.

Selena Gomez was not impressed by Chris Brown receiving an MTV Video Music Award nomination at this year’s event.

It was only a fleeting moment shot on the audience camera at the ceremony – but it clearly showed the singer's face switching from neutrally-pleasant to openly sneering as Brown’s nomination in the Best R & B category was called for his collaboration with Chlöe on How Does It Feel.

Gomez also appeared to deliberately drop her hands after his name was announced – but applauded moments later for his fellow nominees, Yung Bleu and Nicki Minaj.

Her expression says it all.

Gomez has never publicly criticised Brown, but the singer was ostracised by many of his Hollywood peers after he was charged with felony assault and making criminal threats after physically assaulting then-girlfriend Rihanna.

The Umbrella singer was left with gruesome facial injuries and had to be hospitalised following the incident.

Brown was ordered to undergo domestic violence counselling and community labour, and Rihanna later took out a restraining order against him.

Brown has faced other assault allegations from women in the years since, which he has denied.

In another caught-on-camera moment during this year’s awards show, Megan Thee Stallion appeared embroiled in a tense exchange with Justin Timberlake backstage, with the former seen wagging a pointed finger furiously in his direction.

The run-in, spotted by eagle-eyed fans on the MTV broadcast, may have looked dramatic – but sources later insisted to Variety that it was all innocent.

He said, ‘It’s so nice to meet you,’ and she said ‘No, no this don’t count, this don’t count. We gotta meet proper’,” the outlet reported.
