Lorde fires up at critics over her weird MTV VMAs performance

WHAT the hell was going on during Lorde’s dance “performance” at the MTV VMAs? The Kiwi singer is the only one who knows and she’s finally explained.

Lorde doesn't sing a word during VMA's performance

LORDE has fired back at critics who blasted her MTV Video Music Awards performance, saying she didn’t see the problem.

The Kiwi pop star had been scheduled to sing her latest single Homemade Dynamite at the MTV Video Music Awards, but fell ill before the show and opted for an interpretative dance routine instead.

One of the most pointed criticisms came from Maroon 5 front man Adam Lavine, who criticised Lorde and wrote: “It’s always exciting to see how utterly horrible the VMAs will be. They really delivered so far this year.”

Speaking on Marc Maron’s WTF podcast, she admitted she experienced a huge backlash from people who were “angry” about her alternative performance.

She also said she didn’t understand the negativity because she was attempting to do something that was personal to her.

She said: “People got so angry about me performing at the VMAs. I just danced. And I danced with full f***ing joy.

“Some people were like ‘we get it’ but others were like, ‘This is offensive that I have to watch this.’

“It’s so private seeing someone experience such joy.”

The Royals singer revealed after the VMAs that she’d been under the weather and needed the drip just to be able to attend.

She also told Maron she enlisted a group of “hot ladies” to “shoot [her] up” with a vitamin drip before her MTV performance.

She revealed the “drip doctors” administered her a custom cocktail of vitamins, including different types of B and C, and lots of electrolytes, and joked the treatment was like the “start of a porno”.

She explained: “I had those ladies come, those hot ladies. The drip doctors. You can just pay these ladies $200 and they will come and shoot you up with this cocktail. It could be for a hangover, could be a semi-professional sports person.

“It’s like the start of a porno. They’re in their little uniforms, so cute. You could not find that in New Zealand. They wouldn’t do that.”

Lorde had previously taken to Instagram to tell a disappointed fan: “Challenge your ideals beyond what’s traditionally good, beautiful or ‘right’ in a context like this,” she posted.
