7.20amIt wouldn’t be the VMA’s without dash of controversy, and Maroon 5’s Adam Levine has kicked off this year’s show by lashing out at “uncaring” MTV.

Later, he added:

But, MTV didn't take the rocker's Tweets to heart, instead inviting him to tune into the televised ceremony, but Levine was not amused and went on to defend his bluntness:

7.22am Amy Winehouse’s god daughter Dionne Bromfield has slammed MTV’s choice of performers to pay tribute to the late singer during today’s show, The Sun reports.

The 15-year-old wrote that “she felt Jessie J was not a good act to use” before taking the comments down, and showing some love for fellow British songstress Adele.

Legend Tony Bennett, who recorded a duet with Winehouse before her death, will lead the star-studded tribute.

7.30am It’s a year since Lady Gaga donned her meat dress to hit the red carpet at the VMAs, so just how will she top that get-up today?

Putting in an appearance at a pre-VMA dinner, Gaga kept things decidedly kooky with a plunging red suit and sky-high stacked heels, but gave nothing away what she has in store for this year’s show.
