Golden Globes red carpet: Best and worst dressed

Some stars came very close to kicking off the Golden Globes with a serious wardrobe malfunction, thanks to this incredibly daring trend.

The Golden Globes 2019: Frocks and Shocks

Hollywood’s leading men and ladies descended on the red carpet in LA for the 76th annual Golden Globes today, and in a real treat for all of us armchair critics back home, there were plenty of experimental looks.

Leading the charge was Lady Gaga, who scored her first Best Actress nomination this year as Ally in the critically-acclaimed A Star Is Born.

There was never any doubt all eyes were always going to be on her for the big night, but just in case any weren’t - she brought a Plan B in the form of this eye-catching ensemble.

Sleeves big enough to smuggle in snacks? Check. A train to rival Meghan’s royal wedding gown? Check. Bright colour? Check? Matching coloured hair? You betcha.

Also, shout-out to Gaga for committing to wearing these alarmingly high heels for hours on end - my feet hurt just looking at them.

While the 2018 red carpet may have been a sea of black (in a sartorial nod to the Time’s Up movement), this year, colour made a big comeback.

Plunging necklines were also clearly trending.

Empire actress Taraji P. Henson risked a wardrobe malfunction to serve up this seriously sultry Lewk.

Keri Russell got the memo too - we can only assume she also picked up several metres of Hollywood Tape.

Model and actress Molly Sims also showed off plenty of cleavage.

2019 Golden Globes hosts, Killing Eve star Sandra Oh and Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Andy Samberg, showed up nice and early ahead of the ceremony.

Speaking of golden couples, here’s The Quiet Place’s John Krasinski and his wife, Mary Poppins Returns star Emily Blunt.

They looked so cute and happy together, I won’t even mention how triggered my arachnophobia was by her cobweb-by dress.

Australian actress Yvonne Strahovski, who stars in the hugely popular The Handmaid’s Tale, stunned in a flowing strapless mint-green dress.

It looked as though the skirt of Aquaman star Amber Heard’s dress was literally falling down to the ground, so that made me really nervous.

Halloween actress Jamie Lee Curtis presumably planned to avoid red wine at the event.

Every logical part of me says this shouldn’t work - but.. it... did?

Look, two-time Golden Globes nominee Amy Adams, who was in the running for Best Supporting Actress for Vice and Best Actress in a Mini-Series for Sharp Objects, totally deserved a win today - just not for this dull dress.

The black dress code protest may no longer be in effect, but Time’s Up was still present on the red carpet. Supporters of the movement - including Rancic - accessorised their black-tie outfits with black-and-white ribbons and bands. They were designed by Hollywood stylist Arianne Phillips, as a visual representation of Time’s Up’s new TIMESUPx2 campaign, aimed at combating sexual harassment in the workplace.
