The ARIA Awards 2017: Best and worst on the red carpet
JAWS dropped to the floor when Sophie Monk arrived at the ARIAs yesterday. And after stunning the crowd, she snuffed out some big rumours.
THE annual ARIA Awards brings together two things: Australia’s premier hitmakers. And questionable fashion.
The stars have begun sauntering down the red carpet as music’s night of nights gets underway on this overcast Tuesday afternoon in Sydney. And it’s an eclectic mix of “who’s who” and “who’s that”.
The Bachelorette’s Sophie Monk has shown the others how it’s done — stunning in a fuchsia minidress and silencing any talk of a split with her new beau Stu Laundy.
The 37-year-old — who’s been hounded by claims the romance she found with the millionaire publican on the show is all a game for the cameras — arrived with her man by her side.
With her long blonde hair tied back in a sleek ponytail, Monk confidently answered questions from the waiting reporters — and snuffed out any rumours about her relationship.
“We can’t escape it — there’s always a different story,” she told The Daily Telegraph of the rumours. “We’re in talks for a TV show. We’ll have a big announcement in the future and it’s not pregnancy!”
Richard Wilkins’ new girlfriend Virginia Burmeister, 50, has arrived showing off her tanned and toned bod in a sheer frock.
Hanging off the arm of the Today show presenter, Burmeister posed proudly in the revealing ensemble — which featured a strategic floral print to prevent a wardrobe malfunction.
Wilkins’ Today show colleague Sylvia Jeffreys has also walked the red carpet. Relax, she doesn’t have an album coming out. The ceremony’s being broadcast on Nine so I guess she’s just here to enjoy the mess.
Guy Sebastian and his wife Jules have brought some old school vibes with a puffy prom sleeve and an oversized collar.
After a three-year streak of ARIA red carpet disasters, Jessica Mauboy has managed to up her game for this year’s ceremony. No random sleaves. No confronting prints. It’s not perfect — but we’re getting there.
Speaking of Australian Idol, Anthony Callea is there. He’s definitely there.
Believe it or not, former One Direction star Harry Styles’ shiny purple paisley suit actually seems understated next to Callea and his glamorous robo-boots.
The One Direction star caused quite the stir with fans on the red carpet, with a handful of dedicated fans breaking down into tears of joy after meeting the singer.
While she usually prefers to show off her figure in short, form-fitting ensembles, Samantha Jade has covered up in a long, white gown. With her blonde locks loose and tousled, the singer still showed off her curves in the tight number — with the low-cut dress showing off a little flesh.
Alli Simpson — the sun-kissed younger sister of Australian musician Cody Simpson — has swathed herself in vast amounts of pink fabric which vary is transparency and texture.
Known for his divisive red carpet choices, Christian Wilkins — the son of the Today show’s Richard Wilkins — is rocking a yellow tartan kilt. Pairing the skirt with a black silk shirt, leather motorcycle jacket and gold-toed boots, Wilkins completed the lock by tying his trademark long blonde hair into pigtails.
Earlier this year, the 22-year-old copped a lashing from online trolls for wearing a black skirt at the David Jones Spring Summer collections launch in August.
