The Veronicas Jessica Origliasso accuses ARIA of “ego and politics” for On Your Side awards snub
THE lesbian-themed Veronicas video directed by Ruby Rose has not been nominated for this year’s ARIA Awards — and Jess Origliasso ain’t happy.
THE Veronicas’ Jessica Origliasso has hit out at the ARIA awards for snubbing their “LGBT visibility” video for On Your Side which was directed by her actor girlfriend Ruby Rose.
The pair rekindled their relationship during the shoot of the video in New Zealand last year.
The graphic mini-movie not only showed the intimacy between the two women but also tackled the issues of addiction and domestic violence.
Origliasso accused ARIA of “ego and politics” for not including the video among the 10 nominated clips contesting the Best Video award which will be publicly voted.
Jess and sister Lisa hosted the awards last year which strongly supported the marriage equality campaign before it ramped up this year because of the postal survey.
Kylie Minogue and her then fiance Joshua Sasse wore the “Say I Do Down Under” T-shirts on stage.
Sia also invited Marriage Equality Australia ambassador Angie Greene to accept her Best Female Artist award with a powerful speech advocating for legalising same sex marriage.
“Nothing like having ‘On Your Side’ pass 20 million views, tackle real issues, LGBT visibility & still not get a best vid nom by @ARIA_Official,” she tweeted on Friday.
The Veronicas singer also suggested ARIA would be hypocritical to incorporate any equality themes into this year’s awards on November 28 after snubbing the On Your Side video.
“Can’t wait for the EQUALITY theme they push this year, while snobbing the most watched LGBT video of the year, because egos+politics,” she wrote.
GOOD MORNING EVERYONE EXCEPT THE ARIAS.

ARIA released an official statement explaining they didn’t choose the final 10 but the voting academy of 670 industry members, including artists, record label executives and media.
“The nominees for the Best Video Award are not selected by ARIA but by the ARIA Voting Academy which is comprised of over 670 members of music industry of former ARIA winners and nominees, labels, managers, publishers, media, and retail,” a spokesperson said.
“ARIA has been always a strong supporter of The Veronicas’ success, inviting the duo to perform on the ARIAs stage on a many occasions, in addition to hosting our 30th Annual ARIA Awards celebrations.”
On Your Side has had more than 20 million views.
That is a hefty amount of eyeballs for the clip when some of the 10 clips which have been nominated have struggled to get more than one million views.
If the Best Video award was decided by views, Sia’s The Greatest wins by daylight, with almost 500 million YouTube plays.
Next is Dean Lewis with Waves seen more than 10 million times and only Jess Mauboy’s Fallin’ and Bliss N Eso’s Moments the only other clips in the 10 nominations which have cracked more than one million views.
