THE Veronicas’ new video literally captures Jessica Origliasso falling back in love with her ex Ruby Rose.
Origliasso has exclusively confirmed she is dating Rose, after reconnecting romantically on the set of the Veronicas’ On Your Side clip.
After hearing the song, which is about staying friendly with ex partners, Rose offered her services to co-write, direct and star in the video.
It was filmed in Auckland last week, where Rose is making the movie MEG.
Jess and Ruby play characters acting out the highs and lows of a relationship.
“It’s a little confronting,“ Jess Origliasso said. “Ruby and I laugh about how people will be seeing us (falling back in love) in real time, now immortalised forever in this video.
“But she’s incredible. I’m so proud to be with a woman I not only adore but I respect and admire highly. She is the kindest, most ambitious, most compassionate woman.”
The sisters have remained close to Rose over the last eight years, with the Australian model, DJ and actor remixing their last single In My Bloodand also remaining in contact with their mother.
“The universe absolutely conspired for this meeting,” Origliasso said. “It’s incredible when life can completely surprise you and catch you off guard. You never really know what will happen. Neither of us were necessarily prepared for how we would feel and the fact that life can lead you back to something so special yet have it feel completely new again. It’s absolutely magical.”
Origliasso said the clip is the closest she’s got to acting in any Veronicas’ video to date.
“There was such explicit chemistry between Ruby and I that shooting was very intense. We got to know each other on a deeper level. We’ve hung out a lot over the last eight years but we hadn’t had that opportunity where it was just the two of us.
“Both of us have had very crazy lives. We’ve been through a lot of personal evolution. Having come together again at a time where we’re both very independent in ourselves and at a very beautiful place in our lives individually we got to really get to know each other in a new way, in a way we hadn’t had a chance to connect previously.”
“It’s the ability to be able to love someone without the expectation of outcomes. I realised to be with someone as beautiful as she is, inside and out, you have to be real. We both know what it’s like to be in deep in this industry. Being each other’s sacred place is something we highly value.”
Fans already bestowed the pair the couple name of Juby.
“Lisa is the biggest Juby fan on earth,” Jess said. “Lisa and I always encourage each other to write very honestly and be completely vulnerable. The song was about past loves and the unconditional bond you have with somebody. Obviously I’ve always had that with Ruby. For her to be in this music video and be so creatively involved with us felt very rewarding.”
The On Your Side video is due to premiere later this week.
“There’s a lot of Ruby and I in this video. For us it was really important that we capture the chemistry that exists, that’s the most beautiful part of this. I obviously have my chemistry with her that helps an incredible amount but there were some very challenging scenes. To have someone so experienced in that and so brilliant at their craft lead me through that was integral to the entire performance of the video.
“But it’s an intense video. It’s really going to affect people. We haven’t scaled back in any capacity, it’s very raw and real as to what people experience in relationships as far as when things are great and how that feels and when things are at their lowest and how that feels.”
When the pair started their relationship eight years ago they faced a barrage of questions about sexuality.
Origliasso, 31, is still not a fan of labels. “I fall in love with somebody’s soul,” she said.
“When Ruby and I first met we learnt some really hard lessons about privacy in media early on. We’re very protective of what we have now.”
The Veronicas will finish work on their new album in January and February, to be released mid next year.
