The countdown is officially on, with the Playstation 5 Pro soon heading to living rooms around Australia as the latest addition in Sony’s console line-up.

Pre-orders for the console launched on September 26 at 10am AEST.

You can currently pre-order the PS5 Pro from the Sony website.

PS5 Lead Architect Mark Cerny unveiled the new gaming console earlier in September, revealing the PS5 Pro will boast a faster GPU, greater storage, alongside new AI-powered technology, which promises super sharp image clarity and high frame rate gameplay.

“Simply put, it’s the most powerful console we’ve ever built and a worthy addition to the PS5 family”, he said.

And if you’re the owner of an existing PS5 though, games from this console will be compatible with the PS5 Pro.

PS5 Pro tech specs

PS5 Pro delivers the most impressive visuals and performance to date on a PlayStation console, with new features that include an upgraded GPU with 67 per cent more Compute Units than the current PS5 console and 28 per cent faster memory.

This will allow up to 45 per cent faster rendering for gameplay, making games on the PS5 Pro run even faster. This is something we can definitely get behind.

Advanced Ray Tracing will give dynamic reflection and refraction of light at more than double the speed of the current PS5 console, plus there’s AI-Driven Upscaling called PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (or PSSR).

This is a machine learning-based technology that will give super sharp image clarity by adding an extraordinary amount of detail, and ultimately step up your gaming experience.

PS5 Pro is also launching with the latest wireless technology, Wi-Fi 7, in territories supporting this standard.

PS5 Pro Design and Accessories

The PS5 Pro console comes in a familiar design that matches the look and feel of existing PlayStation 5 products.

In a major change to the console, there will be no disc drive, but players can add an Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive, which will be sold separately.

However, other current PS5 accessories will still be compatible with PS5 Pro, including PlayStationVR2, PlayStation Portal remote player, DualSense Edge wireless controller, Access controller, Pulse Elite wireless headset and Pulse Explore wireless earbuds.

What is the price of the PS5 Pro?

OK so this isn’t going to be cheap. The PS5 Pro console will be sold in Australia at a recommended retail price (RRP) of $1199 AUD.

This will feature a 2TB solid state drive and includes a DualSense wireless controller.

Games that are playable on the PS5 console will be playable on PS5 Pro, using the same user interface and online community for multiplayer gaming and network services.

Another feature called the PS5 Pro Game Boost will make more than 8,500 backward compatible PS4 games playable on PS5 Pro.

This feature may also stabilise or improve the performance of supported PS4 and PS5 games. Enhanced Image Quality for PS4 games is also available to improve the resolution on select PS4 games.
