HOW DO I GET FREE THINGS ON MY BIRTHDAY?

Unfortunately you can't simply head into your favourite store and say it's your birthday. You'll need to subscribe to an emailing list, create an account or join a loyalty program.

When signing up, you'll need to provide your date of birth for eligibility to birthday freebies and discounts.

You will typically be emailed a voucher or coupon code to use online or in store where you can claim your free birthday meal, item or gift. Or, you may be sent a birthday surprise gift by the retailer if you've also provided your home address.

You may also only be able to claim these rewards and birthday bonuses if your have your membership card, so keep that handy.

Ensure you check the eligibility of the voucher or coupon as they may only be valid when you make at least one purchase or by reaching a minimum spend limit - that's how they get you in!
