WHAT THE NEWS.COM.AU CHECKOUT TEAM IS LOVING THIS WEEK
Joseph Joseph Nest Boards 3-Piece Chopping Board Set, $68 (down from $124.95) at Amazon Australia
“I’m a long-time fan of Joseph Joseph’s thoughtful design. It’s a brand that makes the most boring household necessities – laundry hampers, cutlery organisers, bins – things of beauty.
Like this chopping board nest, which were described to me as “elite” before I bought them, and it’s not a stretch.
Over 2.4k Amazon customers rated it five stars and I agree with them. The boards don’t slide or scratch easily, they slot in and out of their ‘nest’ easily and so far, they’ve been easy to clean.
They look lovely on the counter top and take up hardly any space.
I love to cook and my family – including my two-year-old – love to eat, meaning these boards will get a serious workout. So far, they seem well up for that task.” – Kara Byers, Content Lead eCommerce
Huda Beauty Easy Blur Natural Airbrush Foundation, $60 at Sephora
”I’m not one to gravitate towards foundation because I find that they’re quite thick and heavy on the skin. However, Huda Beauty’s Easy Blur foundation quickly changed my mind – I got the shade Chai 210B and it blends into my skin so effortlessly for a flawless yet natural finish.
I absolutely love how lightweight it is and it definitely is, as they say, a filter in a bottle.
With a medium-buildable coverage, it effectively blurred my pores, evened out my skin tone and covered the redness all over my face, my dark spots and the darkness under my eyes.” – Harriet Amurao, Shopping Writer
Ouai North Bondi Eau De Parfum, $108 at Sephora
“I recently got the chance to smell the whole line-up of Ouai perfumes and my favourite has got to be the North Bondi scent. It’s a blend of rich florals and sheer white musk, inspired by Sydney’s very own Bondi Beach. It’s really nice for everyday - sublte but still strong enough to leave you with a lasting scent. Plus my husband who’s obsessed with fragrance also thinks this smells amazing, so that’s a big tick in my books!” – Marina Tatas, Senior Shopping Writer
Eve Linen Peach, $160 at Sheet Society
“I got new sheets at the end of last year and my excitement and obsession for them has not wavered one inch in the three months of sleeping in them. I have slept in linen sheets for a number of years, and always just knew them to be rough and a little scratchy, but super chic – so who cares, right? Sheet Society turns that belief right on its head with these ridiculously smooth and cosy linen sheets. Beautifully cool and lightweight, these sheets feel so buttery soft against the skin, and the new peach hue adds such a warmth to my bedroom. I seriously have nothing bad to say about these sheets. They wash well, the doona cover has a zip closure which is such a timesaver, and the deep pocketed, elastic fitted sheet is a dream to put on the bed. Tick, tick, tickety, tick.” – Jessica Smith, Health & Wellness Writer
LEGO Disney Princess Elsa’s Frozen Castle Building Toy, $49 (down from $59.99) at Amazon Australia
“LEGO has been quickly overtaking our house and this set that my toddler got for Christmas has been an absolute hit. The beauty behind it is that it’s made of several “scenes”, so you don’t have to commit to making the full set in one sitting if you don’t want to or can’t. Each scene is designed to aid with role playing – Elsa can dance on her moving floor, Anna go down the can slide or roast marshmallows, and reindeer can be fed carrots. There’s been a lot of joy (and dismantled scenes) since we’ve received this. It’s loads of fun!” – Stephanie Yip, Travel Writer
SumaNurica GHK-Cu Repairing Serum, $118.15 (down from $139) at Myer
“After trying out dozens of beauty products over the years, I know when a serum is worth the money and let me tell you the Suma Nurica GHK-Cu Repairing Serum 30ml is well and truly worth it. Similar in texture to a toner, this very lightweight soothing serum is my new holy grail. Over Christmas and the summer, my skin barrier was really struggling and this instantly hydrated and nourished it. The two-part formulation also ensures ultimate efficacy and safety in every use. I’ve used two of the mini bottles and about to start my third one. I’ll definitely be restocking when I’m done.” – Philippa Tonkin, Shopping Writer
SmoothFit Padded Bra, from $29 at Step One
“Since these Step One Smooth Fit Bamboo Padded Bras arrived on my doorstep, I have worn my other bra once. It’s been over two weeks. It’s safe to say I am obsessed with these low-impact crop-style bras, which are seriously the softest pieces I have ever worn. I even wear one to bed now, which says everything, really. While I’d only recommend them for yoga (even walking is a little much), these comfy bras are the perfect addition to a WFH or lounge wardrobe. They come in a huge variety of colours and their crop style means they can even be worn under an opened button up for a poolside summery look.” – Jessica Smith, Health & Wellness Writer
The Music Set, $225 at Lovevery
”My three-year-old has been showing an interest in music and the piano and this kit from Lovevery is designed to teach them all the basics. It’s actually really amazing. It includes five real instruments (pat bells, shakers, pan pipe, jingle bells and an accordion), a metronome and a Rhythm and Songs book that teaches them different notes in an easy and fun way. I love that the bells use pentatonics, so all sound combinations sound fantastic, and that there’s a good variety of easy to play instruments (bells, accordion) and more complicated instruments (pan pipes). My kid loves picking up random instruments and making music and I can’t wait to start teaching her how to play songs!” – Stephanie Yip, Travel Writer
Airyday Pear-Lescent Body Dreamscreen SPF 50+, $39 at Sephora
“The Pear-lescent Body SPF50+ Dreamscreen has been my new favourite everyday body sunscreen. It’s truly not like the average sunscreen – it’s lightweight yet hydrating, non-greasy, leaves a gorgeous luminous finish, does not leave a white cast and has a gorgeous scent that lingers all day.“ – Harriet Amurao, Shopping Writer
Always read the label and read the directions for use. Avoid prolonged exposure in the sun and wear protective clothing, hats and eyewear when exposed to the sun. Frequent reapplication is required for effective sun protection.
Miniroll, $99.95 at Ultimate Ears
“I love having music streaming in my house but am not a fan of having it cut out when I move rooms. If you feel the same then the Miniroll is a gamechanger. This tiny speaker has a clip on the back so you can hook it to your belt loops to bring your tunes wherever you go. It’s extra tiny and can fit into the palm of your hand, and true to the Ultimate Ears brand, comes in loads of fun colours.” – Stephanie Yip, Travel Writer
Hydrate & Glow Ultra-Fine Mist, $25 at MCoBeauty
“If you want a bit more of that dewy glow look coming into summer, grab the MCo Beauty Hydrate and Glow Ultra Fine Mist. A shimmering, super lightweight mist, this just adds that touch of glow without being too sparkly or heavy. I love to spray this on my cheekbones as a bit of a lightweight, natural-looking highlighter and it’s honestly the easiest step to add into a routine.” – Jessica Smith, Health & Wellness Writer
Narciso Rodriguez For Him Vetiver Musc EDT, $160 at Myer
“Over the past few years, my husband has started to enjoy wearing cologne – but he’s had the same one for a while now and was looking (or hinting) for a change. So, I took a risk and got him a bottle of For Him Vetiver Musc Eau de Toilette by Narciso Rodriguez. It can be tricky buying cologne or perfume for someone, as it’s such a personal thing. But I figured if I like it, then we’re halfway there. Fortunately, he absolutely loves this one, mostly because it was so different. “It’s nothing like I’ve tried before,” he said. “It’s very fresh and woody, I really like it.” I have to say, I love it too – sexy, subtle, not overpowering. It’s like a cool crisp forest – probably because it has a wood base of cedarwood with top notes of green cardamom pods, warm nutmeg and cypress essential oil. Sounds delicious – and lucky for me, it smells delicious too!” – Susannah Hardy, Partnerships Writer
Bioderma Cicabio Creme+ Ultra-Repairing Soothing Cream, $24 at Adore Beauty
“This cream has been my new holy grail for skin troubles. I have really dry skin and often times, suffer from some irritation along my cheeks and on my nose – think dry, red and flaky. I’ll layer it thickly over the affected areas and go to bed, and once I wake up the area is completely healed – no redness or flaking in sight. I also like using it over angry, red spots of acne and it works like magic.” – Harriet Amurao, Shopping Writer
