When it comes to buying new clothes, affordability is most people’s number one concern. With the cost of living seemingly rising every day, it makes sense that something has to give. While I doubt anyone wouldn’t want a wardrobe full of designer clothes if given the opportunity, this simply isn’t a reality for most of us.
But don’t let that deter you from still finding pieces that you actually like and enjoy wearing. Fashion isn’t and shouldn’t be frivolous. It’s one of the easiest ways for us to express ourselves and show the world who we really are.
With that in mind, I’ve rounded up my picks of the best affordable fashion brands available now. From homegrown favourites like Aere and Assembly Label to international giants like H&M and Cos, this is everything you need to know. Keep in mind that some brands on the list may be cheaper than others, but to be as comprehensive as possible, this list will have a variety of price points from the accessible middle.
Plus, check out one of our favourite brands, Glassons. Despite the 90s callback, Gen Z shoppers are obsessed with this chic double denim set, which new.com.au checkout’s Claudia Coy also loves.

Uniqlo
When it comes to affordable fashion, it’s hard to go past Uniqlo. The Japanese fashion giant is known for its quality basics made from durable fabrics. Key pieces to look out for include their T-shirts,puffer jackets and heat-tech thermals.
Glassons
The New Zealand fashion brand is beloved in Australia for its always-on-trend pieces at an affordable price. From designer dupes to essential denim pieces, Glassons is the way to go if you want the trendiest designs.
news.com.au checkout Social Media Producer is a huge fan of the recently released denim collection and says it’s giving major ’90s vibes.
Cotton On
Cotton On is one of Australia’s most successful high-street exports with increasing popularity in overseas markets. Every season, the brand produces incredibly on-trend designs and its classic denim and basics at very affordable prices. Plus, every season you can be sure multiple items will go viral.
BEST AUSTRALIAN AFFORDABLE FASHION BRANDS
Aere
Aere is one of THE ICONIC’s own in-house brands and is known best for their linen pieces and sweet on-trend summer dresses. But don’t forget to also check out their shoes and accessories, we particularly love the best-selling Marni sandal dupes.
Target
Target has really upped their fashion game in the last few years. I constantly see well-dressed shoppers on my TikTok FYP raving about their latest haul from the retail giant. You’ll also be mistaken for thinking Target was American. But despite the same name and logo as the US, the two retailers carry no affiliation.
Assembly Label
If you love a low-key, relaxed vibe, then Assembly Label is your friend. The minimalist Aussie brand makes clean yet elevated pieces from durable fabrics that will last for years in your wardrobe. And unlike other affordable fashion brands, the brand also has a sustainable side through their Re-Worn program.
Lover
Lover is the slightly more up-market of the Iconic-owned brands. Think contemporary designs with a more feminine touch. If you’re ever in need of an event outfit on a budget, Lover is the place to go. And like other brands on The Iconic, it is often on sale.
Country Road
While Country Road may be at the pricier end of this list, they do often hold mega sales, and you can score some pretty insane discounts. Plus, considering how well made their clothes are and the materials they use, it’s actually very good value.
Dazie
Dazie is the most budget-friendly of The Iconic brands and the perfect place to look for fun, fashion-forward pieces without the high-end price tag. From event dresses to casual everyday looks, Dazie has you covered.
Atmos&Here
Want the latest, most stylish pieces without having to fork out your life savings? This is where Atmos&Here comes in. All of the pieces genuinely look so expensive and are super high quality, but they manage to keep the price tag down. While their trend pieces are great, they also have super reliable work clothes, too.
BEST INTERNATIONAL AFFORDABLE FASHION BRANDS
Cos
For timeless, chic essentials Cos is always one of my favourite brands to check out. I know their pieces are always going to be quality and will seriously last years. Their knitwear is also always top tier.
H&M
Personally, whenever I’m after a trending, buzzy, of-the-moment item, H&M is one of the first places I look because I know they will have what I’m after but at an affordable price. The brand constantly has dupes of much more expensive brands and surprisingly, their buys look just as quality too.
Mango
Mango, or MNG as it is now known, is one of my new favourites. The Spanish brand quietly made its way into the Australian market a few years back and is actually now also stocked at THE ICONIC. In my opinion, it is definitely one of the most underrated brands on the list. I also love-hate that we get the viral items a little bit after the Northern Hemisphere as I get my style inspiration from a lot of British fashion-girlies and then have to patiently wait for it to come to Australia.
Everlane
Founded in 2010 and with an ethical focus, it’s no surprise the American clothing retailer is a favourite of celebs, including Meghan Markle. The actor-turned-royal famously wore the brand at her first public outing with Prince Harry at the Invictus Games in 2017. For minimal, classic essentials, Everlane is a fantastic option.
Marks & Spencer
Everyone in the UK knows M&S, but it’s a little known fact that the UK’s favourite actually ships to Australia. While it is generally more expensive than fast fashion brands, most shoppers would argue that the price is well worth it due to Marks & Spencer’s quality.
