HOW CAN I STOP MY HAIR FROM TANGLING?

There are quite a few things you can do to prevent hair from tangling! Firstly, try braiding your hair before bed, or if it’s too short for that (or curly), wear a silk turban to sleep such as this Silke London cap. These mean you don’t have to tie hair up, but also prevents knots from forming as you toss and turn. A silk pillowcase can also help prevent tangles – our edit is here, if you’re in the market for one. Get regular six week trims to get rid of split ends – damaged hair will always tangle more easily. Finally, avoid towel-drying via rubbing your hair. Instead, brush hair in the shower with conditioner in it, so it’s pre-detangled.

WHY IS MY HAIR SO TANGLED AFTER WASHING?

There could be a number of reasons for this. High water pressure can cause tangles at the roots in particular, so try turning your pressure down a bit, especially when rinsing hair at the end of a wash. Scrubbing hair too hard can also create knots. One easy way to prevent knots post-shower is to use a wide-toothed detangling comb or wet hair detangling brush while conditioner is in your hair. Always be extra gentle with wet hair when brushing or detangling – it’s in a more vulnerable state than dry hair, so you can do a fair bit of damage if you’re too harsh.
