VCE Legal Studies students are claiming to have seen a copy of the 2022 exam and have been sharing questions online.

Four days ago, a student said they had seen the exam, but the Department of Education has since insisted claims of any leaks are wrong.

More than 9000 Victorian students will sit the exam on Wednesday afternoon, as the VCE exam period stretches into its third week.

Despite assurances there has not been any leaks, students are practising a 10-mark question from their exam being shared online.

The question is: “Evaluate to what extent referendums have the ability to act as a check on Commonwealth Parliament in lawmaking. In your answer refer to one recent recommendation of law reform in the Victorian criminal justice system.”

Students responded enthusiastically to the question, calling the person who posted it a “legend”. One said: “There’s “99% chance it’s fake but im willing to practice it anyway.”

Another said: “IDK (I don’t know) if this guy is legit but just practise it anyway.”

Others questioned the content of the supposedly leaked question: “I’m a year out of the system but why would the question ask you about a Commonwealth matter, but ask for a Victorian law example?”

Another said: “I’m really confused for as to how the referendum and recommendation to criminal law reform tie in together at all? if this is real it seems like a really faulty question.”

Others are claiming the first question in the exam will be a one-marker which will be: “Define the term ‘injunction’.”

One grateful student noted: “Look forward to seeing it next Wed then. Any tips for the 10 marker?”

The person said the 10-marker question is: “The Australian Constitution is inadequate in its protection of the Australian People.’ Discuss the extent to which you agree with this statement.”

Another offered their prediction: “The civil justice system does far better at achieving the principles of justice than the criminal justice system. Discuss, with reference to a recent or recommended reform.”

There are also claims the English exam, which was held on October 26, was leaked, however, a link purporting to be the exam takes viewers to a YouTube video of a cat catching baby sensory videos.

Rion Ahl and Andrew Kroger, co-founders of the 50Coach online tutoring program, said there was always “endless distractions before your exam day – people guessing exam questions, speculating over the number of questions and outright spreading falsehoods.”

“Its very important that you ignore all of these leaks and treat them as what they are – distractions that will tilt you off guard and make you turn your focus away from your exam preparation.”

“No one knows the exam questions before exam day. All everyone has is the work they’ve put in through the year into perfecting their exam taking techniques for their subjects – so keep your focus on this goal.”

“More broadly, exam periods are times of incredible stress, which can cause difficulty with focus. Our best advice is to ignore nervous and distracting chatter from other stressed-out students and focus on the exam paper which will be in front of you in just a few days.”
