St Kevin’s College students taking part in sexist, transphobic attacks

Fresh controversy has erupted at elite boys’ school St Kevin’s College after reports of a spate of new sexist and transphobic incidents involving students.

St Kevin’s students are continuing to cause concern with a fresh spate of sexist and transphobic attacks reported at the Toorak boys’ school.

Incidents include students reprising the infamous misogynist tram chant on TikTok and sharing it set to new music and the doctoring and sharing of an image of a student to look like Hitler.

Female teachers are subjected to inappropriate comments, with one asked by a boy “would you like to touch my wood?”.

The Herald Sun has seen an Instagram page that rates the year 12 class of 2024.

On the page’s tagline it says “225/267 blokes reviewed”.

There are several other social media pages that detail a litany of offensive comments about pupils.

One parent told the Herald Sun they were “growing increasingly concerned about the lack of progress in terms of cultural change”.

“We have been constantly told that change takes time.

“While this may be true it would appear that we are heading in the wrong direction. In the last week, a boy in my son’s class asked his female teacher if she was wearing a G-string and in another class a boy said ‘suck my b---s’,” she said.

“This suggests to me that the school has not been doing much to deal with the misogyny that we know exists there,” the parent said.

Other issues raised by staff and parents include an image of a student doctored to look like Hitler and shared among the cohort, a boy pretending to shoot a female presenter while miming holding a gun and a boy who took a fake knife into the schoolyard.

There are reports that a teacher was injured when boys threw something at her in the yard and another staff member who was inappropriately touched by a student on a camp.

It is also understood that a transgender person employed on a school camp was abused by students, with one asking: “what the f--k are you?”

One staff member said the school’s consent education was inadequate, noting that “some schools have gone above and beyond in terms of this. We barely ticked the box.”

The school is also seeing a high turnover of staff, with one internal count estimating 180 teaching and non-teaching staff have left over the past two years, with another 20 set to leave the Heyington campus later in the year.

Positions available at the school include Faculty Head of maths, Head of Religious Education, Leader of Productions and Drama Studies, Director of Glendalough and Head of Department of Digital Technologies.

A spokesman for St Kevin’s College said: “The college works with over 2100 boys ranging in age from 3 to 18”.

“Where a singular incident occurs the College response includes investigation, intervention, consequences and education in partnership with families,” he said.

“It’s part of the important work of all schools and a restorative and supportive approach to growing young men is essential.”
