Two public primary schools in the Parramatta region have excelled in their NAPLAN results and ranked in NSW’s top 20, while several have cropped up in the state’s top 10.

An independent analysis of newly-released 2022 results revealed the schools which performed the best in the year 5 tests.

Across western Sydney, Matthew Pearce Public School was the top performing NAPLAN school in the region, which also encompasses The Hills.

The Baulkham Hills school had better primary results than any other school in the region, scoring an average of 589.4 across the five test subjects.

North Rocks Public School in North Rocks was the second best for the region with an average score of 576.2, while Carlingford West Public School at Carlingford was the third best with an average score of 574.8.

Across the state, North Rocks and Carlingford West public schools ranked 10th and 12th respectively.

The result edges North Rocks Public closer to becoming one of NSW’s top five schools, which Robert Ieroianni said was his goal when he became principal in 2018.

“We do have a really strong reputation for catering for individual needs and doing our best for kids to excel at their education,’’ he said.

The school, which has more than 64 per cent of students with Chinese and Indian ancestry, shares a similar demographic to Carlingford West.

“I think it represents middle class Australia,’’ Mr Ieroianni said.

“We have lots of migrant families and families from non-English speaking backgrounds who have a very strong commitment to education.

“There are a lot of tutoring opportunities in this part of the world too.’’

There are 870 students, 60 teachers and two opportunity classes in years 5 and 6 at North Rocks Public.

“When teachers come to our school at North Rocks, they don’t want to leave … we don’t have a transient staffing arrangement,’’ Mr Ieroianni said.

Dedicated teachers that go “out of their way” to give students individual attention.

Mr Ieroianni said the results showed an “upward trend” in English and literacy while there was a slight improvement in maths , with “a strong focus on building and improving our maths results’’ a plan for the year.

The top performing secondary school was James Ruse Agricultural High School at Carlingford, where the average result was 730.8.

To determine how each school performed in 2022, the scores for all five test subjects for the student cohort (years 5 and 9) were combined and the average found.

Special schools, schools with fewer than 20 students enrolled and schools that did not report any results for NAPLAN subjects were excluded from the analysis.

The figures were independently compiled from the Federal Government’s MySchool website.
