Illawarra’s top ranked NAPLAN results for 2022

An independent analysis of newly-released 2022 NAPLAN results has revealed two schools in the Wollongong CBD had the top ranked NAPLAN results in the Illawarra for Year 5 and Year 9 tests.

Wollongong Public School had the top ranked NAPLAN results for year 5, scoring an average of 555.0 across the five test subjects of writing, spelling, reading, grammar and numeracy.

Pleasant Heights Public School ranked second in the region with an average score of 550.8, while the Elonera Montessori School in Mount Ousley was the third best with an average score of 547.2.

Stanwell Park Public School, Figtree’s Nareena Hills Public School The Illawarra Grammar School (TIGS) rounded out the top six with average scores of above 540.

Selective high school, Smith’s Hill, had the top-ranked NAPLAN results for a secondary school with an average of 676.6.

TIGS was the second ranked school in the region with a score of 617.2, while Illawarra Christian School in was the third best with an average score of 608.0.

Smith’s Hill and Wollongong Public School have a track record of strong NAPLAN results with the two schools the top performers in the Illawarra over the last five years.

To determine how each school performed in 2022, the scores for all five test subjects for the student cohort (Yr 5 or Yr 9) were combined and the average found.

Special schools, schools with fewer than 20 students enrolled, and schools that did not report any results for NAPLAN subjects were excluded from the analysis.

The figures were independently compiled from the Federal Government‘s MySchool website.
