Melbourne University’s Dean of Law Professor Matthew Harding has abruptly resigned from the esteemed role on Tuesday afternoon.
He informed students of his resignation over email which will take effect by the end of March.
“To the amazing student leaders who work so hard to effect change for the betterment of our Law School, sincere thanks. You have inspired and challenged me and I have learnt much from you,” Professor Harding wrote.
In the email Professor Harding detailed that the future leadership of the Law School is yet to be determined with Professor Jenny Morgan as the acting Dean in the interim.
Professor Harding was only appointed to the role towards the end of 2022 after many years of working in the law department.
He joined Melbourne’s Universities faculty in 2005 as a lecturer and had since held many leadership roles before being selected as the Dean of Law.
Professor Harding began his tertiary education at the University of Melbourne in 1988 where he completed first class honours degrees of Arts and Law.
