PM urges Melbourne Airport to ‘get serious’ about rail link project

State school parents battling cost of living pressures will be relieved to receive the $400 School Saving Bonus, along with $1b for 16 new schools in Wallan, Mickleham, Point Cook and Tarneit, among other areas.

There will also be money for new stages at two recently opened schools (Mickleham Secondary College and Wollert Secondary School) and $227m for capital upgrades at 25 schools.

These schools include Beechworth Secondary College, Eildon Primary, Heidelberg Primary and Whittlesea Secondary College.

The government has also allocated a total of $69m funding for land acquisition in Melton, Port Phillip, Wyndham and Whittlesea, $250m for school maintenance and $187m for relocatable buildings.

Other positives include more money for students who finish their education in non-school settings, rising from $12m this year to $20m by 2027 as well as $15m accessible schools.

But there are many other problem areas, with cuts made to the English as a Second Language program which will drop from $22m this year to $700,000 by 2026.

Other defunded programs include the student excellence program for gifted students and the early years literacy assessment program which picks up reading problems in year ones.

Read on and see how this budget affects your child’s school.
