Three teenagers have been charged over the Christmas Day killing of a loved great grandfather.
Homicide squad detectives on Thursday arrested three males aged 17 – 19 over the fatal assault of Anthony Clark, 50, outside his Mooroolbark home on December 25, 2019.
A 19-year-old Yellingbo man and a 17-year-old boy were interviewed and charged with manslaughter.
The third accused, a 19-year-old Glen Waverley man, was charged with assault offences.
The trio will appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court and a childrens’ court on November 9.
Investigators believe up to eight people were involved in the fatal brawl on Esther Crescent.
Mr Clark’s family allege they were ambushed by a group of young males armed with baseball bats and bottles about 11pm following a dispute over fireworks set off in the street.
The alleged assailants were linked to a home near the Clark residence.
Mr Clark was allegedly bashed with weapons and stomped on during the attack, leaving him braindead.
His family made the heartbreaking decision to switch off his life support and donated his vital organs.
His wife, Sue Clark, 60, was also injured during the brawl and required hospital treatment.
Mr Clark’s stepdaughter Jessikah Clark told the Herald Sun her family is “broken”.
“I hope their actions haunt them every day for the rest of their life,” she told the Herald Sun.
“Their discusting (sic) gang mentality has robbed us of our rock, the glue that helpt (sic) hold so many of us together.
“No person deserves to have their life taken let alone in this savage way. “I’m glad that their family will also have an empty chair at there (sic) table for many Christmas’ to come.
Jessikah, her brother and their partners allegedly sought retribution in the street two days later and were each charged with affray.
Mr Clark had nine children and six grandchildren.
The investigation remains ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or make a confidential report at crimestoppersvic.com.au.
