A shooting suspect was cuffed and led away in front of stunned onlookers in a dramatic arrest at the Wedderburn Cup.

A shooting suspect has been dramatically arrested by police at a major country harness racing meeting.

Detectives from the armed crime squad pounced at the Wedderburn Cup meeting in central Victoria on Sunday.

Witnesses said police cuffed and took away the 65-year-old in front of stunned onlookers at the Wedderburn track.

Detectives had been investigating a non-fatal shooting in Wedderburn Junction on Saturday.

Officers later raided a farm property on the Calder Highway at Wedderburn.

They seized guns, cannabis and three allegedly stolen vehicles.

A Croydon man, 49, suffered a shoulder injury in the shooting at Wedderburn Junction.

The arrested man was charged with firearms, drug and handling stolen goods offences.

He was bailed to face Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on May 3.
