The Eastern Freeway crash tragedy was not the first time Richard Pusey had come to police attention.
He first faced a court in 2016 over a stalking charge, escaping without a conviction and ordered to do community work.
But his behaviour became more brazen after that. By 2018 he came to police attention trying to blow up a Fitzroy pub and the following year was kicked off a flight for being abusive.
Pusey has also been fined twice for speeding, once for drink driving and once for driving while suspended.
