An elderly man has died in hospital almost one fortnight after being brutally assaulted inside a Coburg home.

An elderly man has died almost a fortnight after being brutally assaulted inside a Coburg home.
Homicide squad detectives have taken over the investigation into the 87-year-old’s death.
The man was assaulted in a Reynard St property just before 11pm on November 11 and suffered life threatening injuries.
He fought for life but died in hospital on November 24.
A 56-year-old Kurunjang man and a 45-year-old Morwell woman, who were at the scene on the evening of the assault, have been interviewed by police.
The pair, known to the victim, was released without charge.
The homicide investigation continues.
