A man was stabbed in the face outside a suburban shopping centre in a daylight attack.
The man, aged in his 40s, was involved in an altercation outside the Chirnside Park Shopping Centre carpark in Melbourne’s northeast when stabbed.
Two people were arrested.
UPDATE: VIDEO EMERGES OF FIGHT, POLICE SAY NO STABBING
Yarra Ranges detective Sen-Constable Leigh Kellett told the Sunday Herald Sun police were called to the Woolworths supermarket carpark at about 11am.
The victim — who sustained cuts to the face, cheek and lip — was taken to Maroondah Hospital in a stable condition.
It’s alleged the earlier altercation involved two small groups outside the supermarket.
The arrested pair — a man, 19, and woman, 18, both from Croydon — were being quizzed last night.
It’s understood all those involved were known to each other.
Images from the scene showed a trail of blood and a pair of smashed glasses.
Forensic police focused on a box-cutter knife on the ground.
The attack comes as figures revealed this week showed violent crime in and around shopping centres across Melbourne has skyrocketed by almost 90 per cent in the past five years with police
forced to deploy officers on horseback to patrol problem centres.
No charges had been laid.
