Geoff Wilkinson has been on both sides of the fence and back again during 50 years in the media and the law.
Wilkinson has worked for newspapers, television and as the founding Media Director for Victoria Police.
In 1987, he created Australia’s first Crime Stoppers program, which has generated almost 26,000 arrests, nearly 100,000 charges and the recovery of drugs, property and cash worth $300 million.
He knows plenty of cops and more than a few robbers, and from Saturday, August 22, will share their stories from both sides of the Thin blue line when he returns to the Saturday Herald Sun and heraldsun.com.au
They include:
- The amazing story of the off-duty detective who survived a gunfight at a suburban supermarket, became a hero and won a medal from the Queen;
- The detective who finally put Melbourne’s bogus barrister behind bars after a three-year charade;
- An interview with Victoria’s first undercover cop;
- And the extraordinary story of the young country motor mechanic who spent 30 years investigating road crashes all over Victoria, helping dramatically reduce the state’s road toll.
Wilkinson is the only journalist ever appointed to represent the community on both the Sentencing Advisory Council and the Adult Parole Board.
He won numerous reporting and investigative writing awards during his long career specialising in criminal justice, and law and order.
He has an OAM, a Churchill Fellowship and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Melbourne Press Club.
Pick up your Saturday Herald Sun for his first interview on August 22 or read it weekly at heraldsun.com.au (for subscribers only. TO SUBSCRIBE, CLICK HERE)
