Two search warrants have been executed at residential properties linked to the trucking company at the centre of the Eastern Freeway crash.

The warrants were issued to “people associated with” Connect Logistics in Croydon and Frankston today.

Victoria’s top road safety cop said police were still appealing to anyone who witnessed the truck with the QLD number plate XV85IE and trailer plate 84IQWQ to come forward.

Assistant Commissioner for Road Policing Libby Murphy said it was a “quite horrendous scene” that would impact the force for many years to come.

She slammed drivers in general who refused to slow down to 40km/h around emergency vehicles and pleaded for road users to do the right thing.

“People know the law, people are deliberately choosing not to slow down,” AC Murphy said.

“Is three seconds of your trip really worth someone’s life?

“Unfortunately it takes an incident like this for people to see that. Please have a heart, please slow down.”

AC Murphy revealed she went through the police academy with LSC Lynette Taylor more than three decades ago.

“Each of them was loved dearly,” AC Murphy said.

“For us it has been quite tragic. It is really heartbreaking.

“I don’t think it could not impact anyone. For me it is quite confronting that it is our own. Road trauma is really impacting people across the world.”

Victoria Police said they “will review” the process of impounding vehicles which has been criticised for being a slow process.

“Our initial advice is the members did everything they were meant to,” AC Murphy said.

“Those impounds are predicated by poor and dangerous driving behaviours. Don’t drive badly, don’t speed.”

Police impounded about 11,000 vehicles last year and have already impounded 5000 this financial year.
