Two prisoners have been taken to hospital after a brutal seven-man jailhouse brawl.
Three men, aged 24, 25 and 27, suffered facial injuries in violence at the Hopkins Correctional Centre at Ararat this morning.
Two of them were taken to hospital with serious injuries.
There are unconfirmed reports one may lose sight in one eye.
Medium security Hopkins has a high proportion of sex offenders and inmates needing protection.
The incident follows another nasty assault on an inmate at Hopkins in recent weeks.
The Herald Sun has been told the sibling of a high-profile criminal was attacked by two other prisoners.
Corrections Victoria said one of the injured men was flown to Melbourne and the other driven to a Ballarat hospital.
“Staff responded immediately to the incident, with one staff member sustaining minor injuries,” a CV statement said.
“All prisoners involved in the incident have been separated and prisoner movements have been restricted until further notice.”
A Victoria Police spokeswoman said four men, aged 28, 29, 34 and 35, were assisting police with inquiries.
“The exact circumstances of the assault are unknown and the investigation is ongoing,” the spokeswoman said.
Hopkins has a capacity of 358 prisoners.
They are required to work full-time in industry areas if capable.
