Melbourne actor Vince Colosimo is facing possible jail time after he was allegedly caught driving with drugs in his system for the second time.
The Underbelly star was represented by his lawyer, George Vassis, at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Friday after allegedly driving while disqualified and under the influence of drugs in St Kilda last year.
Mr Vassis asked the court if the matter could be resolved despite his client being overseas but prosecutor Bianca Moleta disagreed.
“Your Honour, I do take issue with it,” she said.
“This matter really should be heard with the accused present, the accused does have relevant priors and a term of imprisonment is on the cards.”
Mr Vassis said he was “somewhat surprised” by a potential jail sentence but agreed it would be best to adjourn the matter until his client was back in Australia.
Mr Colosimo had his car impounded after he was allegedly caught driving unlicensed and with drugs in his system on St Kilda Road on April 3, 2021.
In 2017, he was fined and had his licence disqualified after he was caught behind the wheel in Melbourne’s CBD with methylamphetamine in his system.
The actor was fined $3500 and banned from driving for five months in that instance, with a magistrate warning him he could end up behind bars if he broke the law again.
Mr Colosimo is best known for his stage and screen roles including in Underbelly and The Wog Boy.
More recently he featured on Celebrity Apprentice.
He will return to Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on July 14.
